    Question Splinters from deck

DS is almost 21 months old and like to crawl up and down the two stairs on our deck. The problem is he is getting small splinters in his legs. They don't seem to bother him, it just looks bad. I hate the idea of putting him is jeans everytime we spend time outside. As it gets warmer he will roast in pants. I think trying to keep him from crawling around on the deck will be a never ending battle.

Do any of you have this problem? Do you just not worry about the splinters. His day care has a deck too so it is a problem there as well. Any advice or tips would be helpful.

    Thank you

it is a very large deck and we can't afford that. I not sure what that would change. Our daycares deck is only a couple of years old and it does it as well. I think all wood decks would if you dragged your legs on it.

you can go for a composet material for your top deck boards rather then wood, not need to stair and no splinters.

don't have to redo the whole thing just the top boards

That is a good idea. We are looking into differents options. Sanding, painting or replacing. I don't want to deal with this all summer

hmm I have no idea, other then sealing it with something, to give it a smooth surface, but that might just make it slippery so a whole other issue.

What about a pair of really high socks, that will cover his knees. I feel you pain, we deal with this still and our DD is 4.

Ooooh kinda tacky but what about buying some of that fake grass stuff and wrapping it around each stair.

Thanks for the tips. We have been putting pants on him outside. I have done some looking around online and it soundes like if we rent a sander that you would use on a hardwood floor on the deck and then stain it, that should make a big difference. This will take a couple of weeks so in the mean time we will just limit his deck time.
