    Default Charitable Support for PPD?

Are there groups already operating to help women dealing with PPD to get practical help? What are they? Where does their funding come from?

There's Mother Reach, and apparently they are funded by an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant.

I am wondering about more personal help. Like come to your house and spend time with you and your baby and even offer respite care type help? Maybe not even for those already diagnosed, but even for those mothers at high risk for PPD? Is there anything?

I'm not sure Hecate, I do know that Mother Risk offers a range of services, maybe PM Kendra for the details as she was quite involved with their programming for awhile. In terms of funding, they struggle a LOT, they did a dinner and silent auction awhile ago to raise funds to keep them going for a bit. Unfortunately programs like this aren't well funded ;(

Canada Post has a Mental Health Fund they raise money for every year and they are looking for charities to compete for grants. Its only been around afor a few years and it just really took off last year, so there hasnt been a lot of press about it. I'd like to see some of that money go to practical help for PPD, but I dont know of any charities that already provide that to let them know about it.

I'd drop Kendra a message, she at least would know the people at Mother Reach and they could spread word around too. Or perhaps an area they would like to expand to but can't due to funding?

That is neat that they are doing that, I'm with you, if they're going to raise money, you want to make sure it gets used somewhere beneficial!

It would be great if those $$ helped fund postpartum doulas for moms who are at risk.

I will think on it but Mother Reach is the first place I thought of.

Thats kinda what I was thinking. The charity has to be registered as such to compete. The deadline is next month I think.

Mother Reach could still coordinate that though, no? Maybe as a new service that they had wanted to offer but didn't have the funding for before.

I do think this is possible, it just depends on if Mother Reach has charitable status.

As far as I'm aware, they do.
