Default step 1 formula vs. step 2 ??

when ds was born I got into a big fight with the nurse 30 mins later she said "he isn't feeding well he is going to starve we have to supliment with formula" which to me was outragious. he was bairly 30 mins old and she didn't evenlet me try. so we ended up supplimenting with formula. specifically similac omega 3 6 9.

when i got sleep deprived to all hell my mother in law suggested to try giving him 1 bottle before bed so we tried to suppliment again. we tried different formulas and hwe got sick they misdiagnosed his with colic. we tried the ready made similac like in the hospital and he was fine. so we have been using the ready made similac ever since. we slowly moved him to the powdered because it was cheaper and he took to it ok. but now I found out there is a step 2 formula. I am terrified to switch himagain with all we went through already but my DH and I keep going back and forth can't decide if we should do it or not...

does anyone know if there is much of a different digestively between step 1 and step 2? I litterally lined them up side by side in the store and looked at the nutritional values and they are the same.

We recently switched from 1 to 2 Similac and I don't know that it has made a difference and from what I can tell by the label, they don't seem that much different. I did switch though because like you mentioned it is cheaper. We had problems with dd too once we started formula (constipation) and have found that similac is the only one she tolerates well.

You gave your babies cow milk at 6 months?
I don't think I want to go that route...

No, I think she's saying that she kept them on step 1 until they were 12 months, and then switched them to milk.

Some formulas' step 2 starts at 12 months, I believe.

We never ever did the step 2 thing. We always kept them on the step 1 until 12 months, and then switched them. My understanding is that there's less iron, because of the cereals that you start at 6 months, and stuff like that. It doesn't really matter if you switch, IMO.

Yeah, the step 2s usually start at 6 months, but step 1 also usually goes to 12 months. So it's totally up to you whether or not you want to switch your little one.

My understanding is that the nutrients are different since at 6 months you start giving solids.
