Default Rider for child on special needs van

Anyone know the process and possibility of getting an adult rider/supervisor on the van with my son? For the past - oh, i don't even know anymore - months, we have had to take his boots and socks off once we get him on the van. if we don't, he will take them off and throw them at the driver. He does not understand the danger... just thinks it's funny because he gets a reaction. He does not do this with us. He did almost a year ago, but stopped just as quickly. He comes home with no boots on as well.
AND, to top that off, yesterday he got oout of his seatbelt. The seatbelt was still buckled up, so not sure if the lap part was just not tight enough when leaving the school, but before I got the van door open, he was out of his seat and in the seat behind him laughing his head off. Makes me think he will do it again given the opportunity.

Is it just a matter of bringing it up with the school? They have asked for suggestions on the boot thing. We said to ask the school board's ASD consultant... maybe they had ideas from a similar situation... but I don't believe they have.

    Thanks!

when we filled out or special needs transportation forms there was a box to check and a spot to fill out “why“ you are requesting a rider. Than when we brought the forms to the school they asked us if we needed a rider (we did not check the box). I would say call the school and as them if you can re fill out the forms or if you need to call the bus company.

Thanks! DS has a dentist appt today so I'll get DH to ask when he picks him up. I think the driver is going to ask also.

Well, we'll see how soon they actually get a rider! Right now the 13 yr old (she's a big 13) that usually sits in the front, is going to sit next to DS and keep him in line. If she doesn't end up on the van one day, the driver will come and let me know - DS is last on, first off - and I will drive him to school and back until they get a rider.

that is fantastic. I hear ya about the boots though.

I am glad to see that the driver went into the school as well to ask for a rider.

Well, now that he has figured out how to get out of his seat, there's really no choice. Most of the drive to DS's school is along Hwy 22/Egremont Dr, so not really even safe to stop to get him back in if necessary.

If only all things were so easy to get. I'm glad to hear they've found a rider for him. It is scary that he can get out of his seatbelt! Hopefully the rider will start soon!
