Default A good reminder today to be thankful for what I have.

I got to chatting today, with the lady sitting next to me at my daughter's activity. She was super nice and was there with the little girl she nannies. As we were chatting, she told me that she has a daughter of her own, the same age as the child she nannies, but that her daughter is being raised by her family, back home, while she nannies this girl and sends them money. She is from another country and has been here about a year I think. She also said that she rarely gets to call her child becuase it is so expensive, so she mainly texts her or occasionally Skypes her.

It was a very good reminder that although my kids can be monsters some time, at least I am in circumstances where I get to raise them, see them daily and hug them at night.

There are no nanny agencies in sarnia....so nannies are pretty uncommon around here.......I was surprised.

But what a mother does to give her child the best! I'm sure it took much courage for this lady.

Oh dear!!! This hit a nerve. I have a lump in my throat.

I think it's sadder that Canadians who have plenty of access to high-quality ECE professionals take advantage of cheap slave labour (let's call it what it is). It is 100% unacceptable. That woman should be with her child. I don't know how families “employing“ foreign nannies can live with themselves. I would love someone to prove me wrong and prove that they pay FAIR wages and follow the Employment Standard Act (which is the bare minimum). I won't hold my breath.

This really makes me so upset that I can not properly articulate what I really want to say. Ugh.
