Default two yolk sacs, one abnormally large, what does this mean?

i went for my first ultrasound a few days ago and the u/s tech said she saw the yolk sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat. i was a little bit concerned. she didnt say much after, just giving me hope or some info saying the shape of my sac was healthy-i guess only to make me feel better.
anyways, doc calls me and want to speak to me. go see doc at the clinic and he says there are some concerns with my pregnancy ulltrasound. first off, my gestational sac measured 25mm so i would technically be in the 6-7 week mark. then they found two yolk sacs (the u/s tech never said she saw two but thats fine). one was a normal size of 5mm, the other was "abnormally" enlarged at 9mm. (from what i have read on the net any yolk sac greater than 5 or 6 mm means a poor prognosis for that pregnancy). THEN the doc said they didnt see any fetal poles or heartbeats.......so i had a large gestational sac, only 2 yolk sacs and 1 was abnormally enlarged......

    what does this mean????

i know they suggest possible blighted ovum....

poor prognosis??? its ok you can be honest. i could have had, or could have twins?????

i go back for another followup ultrasound in a few days and need to get my hcg levels checked. nervous about these tests and results-especially if there is no progression with the next ultrasound.

    anyone with a similar situation???

Sending sticky/healthy baby vibes your way. I have not BTDT with the two sacs etc......so have nothing to add......but will keep you in my thoughts. Good luck.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you

I miscarried twins a couple years ago. I had 2 sacs, then 2 fetuses as well. But at the 12 week u/s there were no heartbeats. One had stopped developing earlier than the other one. I think there is a fairly significant number of 'vanishing twins' where one of them miscarries before the 2nd trimester.

some times one develops more then the other. or faster. you can end up with babies being born 8lbs and 4lbs due to that. it can be a concern because one can absorb the other. and you can end up with disappearing twin. I would speak to your doctor before you freak out tho.

I have had a blighted ovum but I dont remember them saying anything about an abnormally large yolk sac. Hugs! Hope everything works out for you.
