Default New 'system' in our home

    Hi,
In the past I have found it challenging to sometimes meet the emerging needs of both my kids throughout the day. One wants me to do this, and one wants me to do that and perhaps I just want to have a cup of tea.

Today we came up with a new idea that has worked really well. In the morning we made a list of the things we wanted to do today - all 3 of us and then we checked them off one by one as we did them. I found this really helpful because they knew they would have my attention for the activity(s) they were interested in so they didn't fight over me. Also, I was able to mentally get into a space so that I knew what the day was going to hold and what I would need to accomplish with them. I found having this 'plan' helped me feel more flow and less intrusion if that makes any sense.

It is only day one, so really I have no idea if this will work for us long-term. But today it was a huge success and I just wanted to share. I feel like we have overcome one of our ongoing obstacles to all of us having our needs met each day

Not really. They were very excited to do the things on their list and check each one off. They did other things not on the list, but independent from me.

Here is the list from today:
yoga (mine but they decided to participate)
read out loud chapter book and do mini book club
    violin practice
    treasure map
splitter splatter paint craft (7 year old googled to find craft ideas and came up with this)
make a big raindrop craft (5 year old idea)
    bake banana bread
    help make dinner
    TV
    play outside in rain
    write in their blogs

I like it! But I like lists in general.

I've been doing my own lists for us for the day (I love lists) but maybe it wouldbe even better if I had the kiddos give more input. Something so simple but likely make it all better.

It was. A lot more then what we usually all do together. I don't anticipate that all our days will be so full but one week or so a month, I tend to have a lot of energy and apparently that is this week

I wonder if we will can count it as a list if some days we only write down one thing? LOL!

    1.Waste time online
2.Lay around and watch some tv or read a book.
    3.Feel tired
    4.Yawn.

I'm a big list maker, I rarely go to the store without a list. DD is always pretending to make lists so I think she'll like this and will get some printing practice too! It would be great on Weds, when we have nothing else planned. Thanks for the idea.

I don't see “hot tub with the neighbour on the list.“ Unacceptable.
