twinmommy - thanks for the links, I will check them out.

I suspect Autism because:
-he is 20 months and only has about 3 words and doesn't use them very often
-doesn't respond to his name
-rarely looks us in the eye
-very particular about his toys
-very particular about his food, and the way it's cut

there are more, but I can't think of them right now....sorry, it's been a very over whelming day. I have taken in so much information today.

something else that's interesting. He has a dairy sensitivity, I couldn't eat dairy for 10/13 months. I finally tried him on some yogourt a few weeks ago and noticed his signing regressed and also he would not point to his body parts when asked. He ate yogourt for about two weeks, I cut it out a week ago and he is back to signing and pointing to body parts when asked. I can't blieve it! it's so crazy....

I've heard that before about dairy and a regression in communication.

I have mentioned to my Ped that I couldn't eat dairy while nursing....he looked at me like I had two heads. basically told me that I was crazy and that nothing I ate would affect my BM. He's old school and he again, would think I was crazy if I told him that. But I will give it a try when we go next.

DS is signing perfectly again this morning and has even learned a new sign in the past two days! Dairy is BAD and does BAD things to us!

My DD had these characteristics as well but no -Autism, she is 4 and we still don't have a Diagnoses. At least you'll have a Diagnoses. There are some wonderful Moms here at LL, they will support you all the way. I have got so much support and kind words thrown my way in the last year. It has made me feel much better. Goodluck with everything. Sounds like you are a great Mom and you are on the right track. <hugs>

Thank you so much CaitnChloesMum....it amazes me how much diet can afftect behaviour. I also didn't give him bread today (gluten)....he was a completely different baby today. He signed like crazy all day long and he has learned two new signs in the past two days. He was just a completely different baby today. I can't explain it. I was amazed. All I have to say is that he's never getting dairy ever again.

CaitnChloesMum - HOw long have you been waiting for a diagnoses?

Your child may be eligible for some therapy services without a diagnosis or as you wait for a diagnosis. For example, if you are concerned about his speech and language skills - you can refer yourself to tykeTALK. If he has sensory processing issues or limited foods that he will eat - you can get occupational therapy support from the Thames Valley Children's Centre. An autism diagnosis may open doors for some services (IBI), but most children on the spectrum do not get IBI, most are referred to community services to help address the child's ability to function at home/daycare/school. They are not special services for children with autism.

Thats great!! I can't do the no Gluten thing, as she will only eat particular things. Which is very diffucult. I noticed something was different with her when she was baout 15 months old. She saw a dev. ped. when she was 2 and she has a whole bunch of generalized Diagnoses, but nothing specific. So i try not to concentrate on the diagnoses anymore and I try to help her anyway I can. I just want her to be happy, healthy and confident.
