We've thankfully never had a lice outbreak here (knock on wood) but I'm also adament on no hat/hairbrush etc. sharing so hopefully she's just learned. I'd hate to find the little black bugs in her full dark hair.
It is easier to see them on wet, dark hair. My kiddos have never had it thank god, and other than seeing it on daycare kids (when I worked at a centre) I have never seen it other than my friend's little girl. It took every ounce of my power not to move away from her, I was helping hold her down to put her IV in, when I looked up and saw a bug crawl by her ear!!

Using TTO as a preventative measure is a myth. The best way to ensure your kids don't get it, or at least don't get a bad case of it, is to invest in a GOOD Lice Master comb. Once per week go through their hair while they are in the tub by using the comb.....done, super easy and nothing harmful to their health.

ETA: Info according to the lice squad rep.

Could you try buying her these products for them? they say when you combine some of the treatments they are close to 100% effective.

I'm dreading this part of school. I had lice all.the.time when I was a kid. Drove my mother nuts! And those nights under the light with the comb... ugh... Apparently, it's supposed to be a terrible year for lice (can't remember where I heard that but I really hope it's not true!) I already have some tea tree oil to put in their shampoo, which we'll be starting this week.

Thanks for reminding me.. must stock up on hair elastics, and hairspray. lol TTO goes into the bottle of water I use to spray their hair in the morning when I am combing.

My kids survived 3 years of daycare lice-free. I just lightly sprayed their hair with hairspray. Also, if your boys have brush cuts, I have been told that the bugs cannot hang on, because the hair is too short. Not sure if true or not, but thought I would share just the same.

She thinks she knows it all....so she can do what she wants, we basically have no say until the kids are with us for the weekend. Their hair gets a “rest“ when they are with us.

Thanks for the info. I don't do anything for prevention but I have been tempted to buy the stuff I listed. The thing with lice is you can think what your doing to prevent them is working when all along you maybe wouldn't have gotten lice anyway and I even think in the stuff I listed it probably wouldn't be ideal to use everyday but probably better then straight TTO! That's too bad she's like that and won't give you guys a say because that stuff is potent and on their heads! I can't believe anyone would think that would be a good idea.
