I've got some prefolds, I think your SIL bought some from me as well.
I have stuck prefolds in a g-diaper cover, I have used them with snappies with other covers, and I occasionally use small prefolds as either boosters in a fitter or to stuff pockets. Very versatile and cheapy cheapy.

You don't need to do anything fancy and they work well for newborns. I used them with a snappy and sometimes with a cover. I did switch to mostly pockets once C was a bit older but then I would often use a prefold to stuff it. You can stay with prefolds though and many like wool covers. There's a whole world of cloth dipes out there, at least there used to be. I can't believe I used to drool over a dipe! LOL I'm kind of excited about CD'ing with this one again.

Only question with the wool covers, how to they NOT get wet or poopy? Wool is absorbant, no? Unless it's like sheep which has a natural wetness barrier, I think it's lanolin oils in it if I remember correctly.

I'm not sure exactly, but our wool cover worked really well. There is lanolin in it. Just word to the wise, if it does happen to get dirty, wash it right away (in a bit of room temperature water with Eucalan). I waited two days to wash my wool cover and the fabric where it was dirty just disintegrated in the water The only reason I can think of is that I didn't wash it right away.

They will eventually get a little damp but that is only if they have an extremely wet diaper. I wash my wool covers in a little bit of lanolin. They will get poopy if there is a poop explosion but those are rare around here.

I hated prefolds for diapering. I use them all the time for other things. Premium ones made great postpartum pads for me.

Well, I ordered six chinese prefolds and two thirsties covers...we will see how it goes.
Perhaps I will attempt to knit some wool covers.

I loved my DSQ CPF and Thirsties covers. I still use the premium ones with the duo covers but tend to grab pockets when heading out now that he's mobile and harder to contain for long.

these are the covers I got:
Thirsties Duo Wrap | The Cloth Diaper Shop, St. Catharines, Niagara, Ontario, Canada : The Cloth Diaper Shop one in snap one in aplix to see which I like better. I got the blackbird and meadow patterns.
This place could become dangerous, they sell MeiTei's too, AND THEY TAKE MONEY TRANSFER AS PAYMENT.
ONO, I am holding you responsible for telling me about this place if I blow all my money there
