Express Organics
So, here's my first order. I took off three things from the standard list, and added three others on and am gonna try the chicken. If you take something off and want something else to replace it, it's a $2 charge. If you pick something that costs extra, the $2 is deducted off the cost. So the Strawberries I added the $2 additional fee was taken off the $4 cost.
Here is your box order for this week...
4 apples-braeburn (New Zealand)
8 oz. beans-green (Local Farm)
8 oz. beans-yellow (Local Farm)
10 oz. grapes-flame seedless (California)
1 lb. peaches (B.C.)
8 oz. peas-snow (Ontario)
1 peppers-red bell (Ontario)
1 lb. plums (B.C.)
1 pint tomatoes-cherry (Local Farm)
1 extra of 2 lb. bananas (Ecuador)
1 extra of 1 cucumber-field (Ontario)
1 extra of 1 lb. zucchini-green (Ontario)
1 extra of 1 squash-butternut @ 2.50 (Ontario)
1 extra of 1 lb. strawberries-fresh @ 4.00 (California)
Here is your Add-On order for this week...
1 of Chicken Breasts - Boneless (McSmith's) - 1 lb.@ 13.00
Total: $46.50
How does that compare in cost to the other organic places?

I used to get the small box, no add ons just substitutes. AT the grocery store I would get a mix of organic and not organic. I found that when I got the box, my grocery bill was generally about $25 less, so equal to what I would've been spending anyway. I like that it forces you to buy/eat produce. I have GOT to get started again!!

It arrives Thursday. Maybe I will take a pic. This the the small box, the med box has more and is meant for a family of 4. This is more like a single parent family or couple with no kids. I'm good with 4 apples given that there is a pound of plums and a pound of peaches and grapes. Plus I added bananas.

You'll love the chicken. We get our chicken from McSmith's (but we place our order directly through the farm so it's $10/lb... I was shocked to see the $13/lb on your order!)
We usually get a box from On the Move Organics every other week and it's $30, but because you customized it's hard to tell how it compares.
Personally in our house we don't eat fruits or vegetables from other countries that are grown here. So we only eat Ontario apples/strawberries, etc.
In our house, our order of priority is local/organic, then local, then imported organic, then everything else. I just bugs me to ship apples from New Zealand when there are apple farms 15 mins away.
Sorry, I know that's a bit off topic!

They are located in London but also deliver to Sarnia and Chatham for a fee according to their website.

Good point about local. I did notice that when ordering - look at where stuff came from.
Besides local = good. I have a new theory that people are getting more allergies cause they're not eating local and our bodies have no immunity or exposure to our surroundings. So our noses get all “WTF!“ when we go outside.
Good to know about the price difference! I expect them to make a profit, for $3/lb it's worth a drive to stock up out there. They are on the way to St Thomas, yes?

Yup, and they're awesome. But you have to pre-order the chicken. It's gotten really popular so you usually have to place an order with Cathy ahead of time. There's a whole schedule on their website. If you want pork or ground beef you should be good without pre-ordering, but I like to let them know I'm coming since they're farmers and usually come in from the field when they know I'm coming. I also usually get a couple dozen eggs when I'm there ($3.50 for a dozen). Oh and they take debit if you need it
And I totally agree with you about the allergy thing!!

A couple dozen eggs, how long do those stay fresh and what the heck do you do with that many?
I had checked out their site ages ago and saw that chicken needed ordering. Never followed through with anything though.

Because their eggs are so fresh (like a day or two after they're picked) they last longer. The ones you get from the grocery store are already a week old. I find they last for about two-three weeks. I make fritattas or quiche... I'll bake and freeze muffins, cookies, etc. But we eat a lot of eggs around here because the kids and I are trying to cut back on meat, so we eat eggs to get more protein in our diet. Oh, egg salad too!

2-3 weeks is pretty good! Longer than I was expecting.
Another good point about eating eggs instead of meat. You're full of em tonight.

I buy organic fresh eggs at our local market. I asked the lady a couple weeks ago how long they are good for (as they pick them that day or the previous day) she said 4-6 weeks. I would assume that would hold true for any organic , fresh eggs.
