Default Need to make a natural air freshener

Does anyone have any suggestions or ones that they use? I did try to make one with lavender once but my spray bottle actually started to melt (?????). I have two young children and I have heard that the one essential oil that you shouldn't use with children is peppermint. Has anyone else heard this?

Bring on your homemade concoctions!

i think pepermint oil is okay to use for an air freshener around children, but not to be used ON children, or taken orally for children because of its strength , but dont quote me on that, its one of the eo's im not really familiar with.
I dont use air fresheners in the house, but when I want to make the house have a specific atmosphere to it, I might boil some tea leaves on the stove, or use eo's in a spray bottle with water. Just a little bit at a time, maybe you could try a stainless steel water bottle?

If my house needs to be “freshened“ I boil whole cloves, cinnamon sticks and orange peel in water on the stove and let it simmer.

I've started using a natural 'deodorizer'----it doesn't really have a scent, but would probably work well with some essential oil added to it. I just haven't bought some yet.

anyway, it's 500ml of water, 1tsp baking soda, 1Tbsp vinegar.

I use the same as Indigo, but add a few drops of essential oils. I was using lemon extract (the kind you bake with) for a while, and it worked well.
