Welcome! I won't lie, you are going to come across obnoxious homophobic a-holes but honestly I think this city has come a long way. If you were coming from church and Wellesley you might struggle finding your feet here but coming from Milton? You'll probably really love it.

There are a LOT of lesbian moms here. A lot of us know each other, and we tend to hang out. There used to be a Dykes n Tykes group but it doesn't really meet any longer as people formed friendships. But there is always excitement about a new family in town, so I bet you would be able to meet friends rather quickly if you would like that. If you decide to move here, PM me and I could help you get connected to the folks I know. I am queer and my older daughter's father is a gay man.
Old South is a bit of a mecca for lesbian families too, so I would at least look in that area if you move here.

Welcome to London Moms!!!!!! My family and I moved to LOndon this past October, and I must say I have come a cross a lot of really wonderful people. I cant speak from experience really, but I dont think you would have much to worry about here in London. My MIL is married to a woman and they always talk about how accepting London is of them. Im sure it would be the same for you!

welcome to londonmoms! it's a wonderful community of incredibly helpful and supportive galz.
i just moved here to london last november but i did grow up in st. thomas which is just south of here.
as a teenager that dressed super-off-beat i thought london was way too conservative.
but i really love living here. there is sooo much offered for families here it's incredible.
there is also a unitarian church here that is very open to gay and lesbian families.
i also think it's a beautiful city. there are parks and conservation areas and so much green land everywhere.
it's quite a lovely place to live and raise a family.
oh and everyone is right...you will LOVE wortley village! if i could afford to i'd live there in a second!
welcome aboard!

Thank you thank you thank you for the welcome!!
It feels so good to be welcomed so warmly!
We are trying to figure out where Old South and Wortley Village are in London? We were looking in the Fanshawe/Highbury area since we wanted to be closet to the University, but we are open to anywhere!
Thank you all so much!

Welcome to the boards
I think joining forums before you move somewhere is a huge help. I did that before we moved to London. But I stayed on after we moved away from london...and moved again, and again.
Hope you like it there.
There are a lot of moms here who go to the University or work there so hopefully someone can help you with the 'areas' and what their lingo means. I never figured it out lol. I get lost in malls, I'm no help.

Old South is roughly the area boundaried by Horton, Baseline, Wharncliffe and Ridout Streets.
Although you definitely don't have to live in that area to get to know the queer parents. I just notice when out and about I always see lesbian families, and several of the families I know live there. But definitely not a necessity to live there. It's a very nice neighbourly feeling though in that area generally, definitely worth checking out.

Welcome to both of you, Michele and Amanda! We look forward to having you as a part of our LMs community.
As an aside (unrelated to your original post), I do find it can be a bit difficult getting to 'know' people individually when they post from a joint account, instead of having an account/user name for each person, because I never feel like I know who I am 'talking' to. I'd kind of recommend each of you having your own account, and thus LMs identity, rather than posting as a unit, as it lets us get to know both of you better. Your choice, but it does increase our ability to get to know you each more intimately (your individual personalities, etc.) and build a closer sense of community, IMO.
