Please allow us to introduce ourselves...
Hello!
We are the Feesers - Amanda and Michele... we have a handsome little man named Spencer who is 6 months old. We are a happy, healthy family that loves to walk, read, swim, cook locally, play Rock Band and watch Baby Einstein!
We are currently in Milton, but we are ready to stop commuting to Toronto and move to a city where we can work and live! London seems like a really friendly city, but we have been warned that it might not be as friendly to families like ours.
We have really enjoyed being members of MiltonMoms and I thought there must be a LondonMoms. So I googled and here you are. Then I noticed in London Events that you all set up a booth for the kids to be creative at Pride. I wish we would have started thinking about London sooner so we could have attended Pride. Your excitement in the getting ready so evident in the posts touched me so much it made me cry.
Can I ask you all for an assessment of how homophobic London is to give us a more accurate picture of London than our well-meaning friends? And please be honest, you can't hurt our feelings!
We aren't worried being shunned or rejected for who we are, we have lived in the Bible Belt in the Southern US so we are used to being invisible. But if we unknowingly move our beautiful, happy, healthy son into a community that rejects or hurts him because of us, we will never forgive ourselves.
Michele, Amanda & Spencer

Welcome to London Moms!!
I was born and raised in London and it is a, sort of, conservative place but I don't *think* you would experience too much homophobia. We had quite a wondeful turn out at Pride and besides a small handful of protesters everyone else was extremely supportive.
My brother is gay and he moved out of London to TO when he was 18. He prefers being in a bigger city and did have a few issues when he was younger downtown at night some guys calling him a few names etc but that was 10 years ago. I would hope things would have changed by now.
I'm sure some other ladies will have some answers for your questions too.
Welcome!!!

Hi there!
I have no personal experiences aside from living in the country with a bunch of rednecks who are ignorant about people who do anything differently.
I do see more and more people who are accepting though. And I work on the ones who arent

Hello and welcome to LondonMoms!
I don't have any personal experiences to share but I know that you will get to talk to some of our mamas who will be able to share with you!
Please make yourself at home here and get to know our great community! I'm sure you will meet all sorts of fantastic ladies and it will be great way to learn about our city in the event that you do decide to move here!
Again, a huge welcome and can't wait to learn more about you and your family!

Hi and welcome.
I agree with Book Worm...it can be a conservative place in some ways. Yet there are really thriving pockets of activism and progressive movements. Having a large university here contributes to that, I think, in some ways. There are also really neat neighbourhoods with eclectic mixes of people.
I think you could find happiness here. Our closest friends are a same sex couple who have adopted and are very happy here. They occasionally run into bigots but for the most part live life like we all do, which is all they want.
Good luck in your decision and potential job hunt.

I've lived in London most of my life, 32 years. London can be conservative on many issues, but with this I've found that London (and Londoners) are much more accepting now than they used to be 15+ years ago.

Welcome to London Moms!
If you are looking for a great area to live in for you in London that is so acceptable, I would hands down choose Wortley Village/Old South which is awesome, very artistic and a village within London. I moved here from Vancouver's Kitsilano area which is similar to Wortley.
