PSYC ASSESSMENT
Finally the time has come... Daegan is undergoing his second assessment . We started it this past Tuesday and will be resuming on the 26th. He had one done at age 3ish thru DSAC in Kitchener (I would never recommened it) and now he is getting one done through The Hospital For Sick Children. Squeaky wheel me found a back-door way in through the social worker who works with the genetics department . Now Daegan my boy... don't mess this up, lol, momma needs this information to decide where to place you next September for school.

You've got the best attitude to deal with this stuff! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it turns out the way you are hoping!

We've started to assessment and am scheduled to continue again next Friday. Our goal which I am told is reasonable, is to have all the components of the assessment required to generate an IQ finished. Due to the urgency I have placed on them to get this done... following the testing they will immediately assess the results and informally share it with me before I leave. All other testings can tricked into the school year as far as I am concerned.

Once we had B's psych assessment and IQ assessed, so many doors opened to B. He has changed and grown so much now that the right things are in place for him

This IQ testing is the first for us. I happened to have a chat with intake at CPRI last week and picked her head about this topic because I wanted to know if IQ testing was a standard element to psyc testing. Daegan had a psyc assessment done at age 3 and it had nothing about intelligence (it was infact a waste of paper IMO). I was told IQ is something typically assessed starting at about 6/7yrs as it has some reliability at this point. A child who tests at/below/or above normal can be reliably prediced to maintain this through adulthood.
I don't know what team of medical professionals you deal with but that is who I'd be asking to see if any testing has been done. It should be in their file. If nothing has been done and you want IQ to be tested I'd suggest you tell them and start the referral process to the appropriate professional. Psychological assessments if that is the route you are considering are expensive. Government paid assessments entail long waitlists. You should be able to get just IQ tested.

Assessment is done!!!! As expected he is in the gray area. Typical for him, his performance was not consistent.. his development ranged between age 3-8. He is 8.5yrs old. Continuing with inclusion was the recommendation based on his scatered results and the “spark“ that is seen when he is working in a social setting (speech camp). We had an “informal“ discussion of results so that I could determine where to send him for school. I can expect to have the official written report in a couple of weeks. The “typical“ profile of a child who is suited for a DevEd placement has a more flat profile... meaning their level of development is more consistent... not spiked in arears and sunken in others. He has made huge gains this year largely due to medicating his ADHD and focusing so strongly on speech. It will be interesting to see how the next year will be. What I really like is that the psychologist gave me her direct line and is at my disposal, willing to be as involved as I like with other medical people and school... I told her to expect me to take advantage of that; and they will strongly word their recommendation that Daegan get connected with a children's psychiatric health unit. They were going to give me the name of some local places (in Kitchener) but I told them I wanted CPRI for what-ever services I could get, and I want a developmental pediatrician. What surprised me however, was that the pychologists had no idea what “CPRI“ was was I mentioned it.

That is great news that you now have a plan and a decision made regarding his schooling. This should dispell any doubts you had in your decision.

Yeah, no surprises really... just trying real hard to have an open mind and consider all the options.
