I am looking at buying a sewing machine but I'm really new to the world of sewing, was hoping for some pointers, advice or any do's and don't you have to offer about buying one!! I'm looking to get a very simple, beginners machine to start out, any advice would help!!!

check out joyce's sewing shop in wortley village

they are super friendly, and even though I didn't end up purchasing from them, I'm going to go back and check out their other stock sometime real soon!

I like Joyce's too. Very helpful, friendly and informative Ladies. They also have classes to learn the basics and beyond. I bought a machine there last year.

For a basic machine Sear's Kenmore seems to be good. My Kenmore is 16 years old and served me very well.

My newest machine came from the Sewing Superstore. I upgraded to a machine with specific features and abilities.

Buying from Joyce's or the Sewing Superstore will get you free lessons on how to use your machine. They will also give you support if you have problems later. I don't know how good that support is because I haven't had any problems yet. Sears did have a free lesson on how to use their machine 16 years ago but I don't know if they still do that. At these three stores you can also sit down and test drive the machines. Ask lots of questions during your test drives and you will learn some sewing too, especially at Joyce's.
