Shoes for orthotics
My daughter was just prescribed orthotics to help straighten her foot. What shoes would be best to fit the orthotics? Any recommendations? I am thinking the shoe would have to have a wider opening to fit her foot in with it on.
Thanks for your help.

Probably velcro ones, as you can pretty much open them right up. I would take her to a shoe store with the orthotic and have her fitted.

Do you know what shoe store is good? I know it needs to be wide. we will need a few pairs since she goes to daycare.

what type of orthodics? my dd used to wear SMO's and we found smart fit (tie up runners) from payless were the best, we just took out the insole.
if AFO's we got the AFO shoes through the orthodics place that made her AFO'S.

I would call Seigel's here in London. They have alot more experience for fitting orthotics. Not sure if they still carry kids shoes though.
My dd has AFO's so there isn't an issue.

Actually, if you bring shoes to the place making the orthotics they should be able to customize the orthotics to fit in the shoes.
Bioped does that - they're on Wellington near commissioners and also up in Hyde Park.

We already purchased orthotics so we won't be able to have them custom fit this time. Maybe when she needs new ones. Thanks for the info around that.

i wear mine in skate shoes... nice wide bases, lots of room.
how old is your dd? is she old enough for the girl size, rather than the little kids shoes? if not then my guess would be velcro shoes, too.
good luck!

My DD is 22 months. She was a size 4 now with orthotics she will be wearing size 6!!
I will have to sell all her cute sandals, shoes and boots I have bought for her now that she can't wear them.
We are going to check out a few stores this weekend. We did buy some shoes at Ellen's but we can't afford to buy her 4 pairs! She needs 2 alone for daycare use only. (for indoor and outdoor use) Crazy!!

I have worked with a lot of children with orthotics, many just wear one size bigger velcro shoes. This seems to work nicely.
