    Default Making wool puddle pads

Has anyone made a wool puddle pad from a wool blanket? I don't want to drop $100 or more on buying them but we have a number of old woolen blankets left over from our days of going to second hand stores, auctions and such. One in particular appears to have been machine dried so I don't think it would be too terrible if I cut it up.

It's a mattress protector. You would use in instead of a vinyl mattress pad.

If it's a thick blanket, it would work really well! Felting sure helps to make the weave tighter, though if it's thick, it'll most likely work well anyway. Felted blankets don't need piping around the edges either, but it'll help to give it a more finished look, and if the blanket is thinner, binding will help it stay flat easier.

It's pretty thick and I think has been put through the dryer and or washed in hot water. I think by cutting it in half I could use one on the baby's crib and the other on my eldest's twin bed. How does one felt wool?
