Default Toddler Wearing Options?

DH and DD love the Baby Bjorn but she's very soon going to outgrow it. Any suggestions on what to replace it with? Only DH uses it so I'd like something sort of manly. It doesn't have to come with a rifle, but I don't want anything with pink frilly bows either. Suggestions?

A soft-structured carrier is the same style as a BB, so you might get the hand of it easier. Check out Ergos and Becos.

Mei tais also have a similar idea and I love my MT for my 18-month-old.

You could also go for a woven wrap, but they'd be a big leap from what you're used to.

I think whatever type of carrier you choose, you can find it in the manlier styles you want.

crap, the one I was going to suggest DOES come with a rifle.

Oh well, in that case I will have to second mamabear- a ergo, or something like that should work quite nicely

or a pouch sling that you can use as a hip carry.

Thanks for the suggestions. Now, where's the best place to shop for an Ergo or Beco? Does any store in town have them?

I use a pouch sling myself but DH doesn't really care for it. I think he prefers the BB because to him it feels sturdier. For that reason, I think he might not care for a Mei Tai, but I'm really interested in trying one out for myself. Again, suggestions as to where to shop for a MT?

Siana might be able to assist... I think she is making some... or was anyway. I have a mei-hip carrier... but, even with Siana's help I still can't figure the darn thing out! I may have to just convert it to a mei hip (maybe with some help -- hint hint Siana!!)

AnnasMom, a couple ON companies that carrier SCCs (Soft Structured Carrier) are Hip Bundles and Pooka Baby. I'm sure there are many more. I'd recommend figuring out which product you want first, and then finding ON retailers. Check out thebabywearer.com for help choosing via the forums, and check the directory listings of companies that carry the product(s) you're interested in.

LOL llbgal! I'm still making the Mei Tai's and now other carriers, though I've slowed down a lot since my workstation got moved due to renos.. Can't wait for it to be over!

It was a real pity to hear that even though you seemed confident about using your Mei Hip when you left here, that you couldn't figure it out at home FWIW, I found the Mei Hip a bit fiddly when it came to putting the shoulder strap across your back and over your shoulder, KWIM? Did you try it while you were in front of a mirror on a bed, or perhaps had another adult to spot-check as you tried it on?

I really need to see you trying it on in order to figure out what's going on that makes it difficult, if not impossible to wear! It would be nice to meet IRL, but I know how challenging that can be. Crazy idea, but if you have a digital camera with video capability, then perhaps you can ask DP to record you trying it on, and then upload it to YouTube so I can have a look!

I love my Maya wrap because it is made of a sturdy fabric and holds my 17month DD's weight really well. I also love my Mei tie that I made. I got the Maya wrap at Under the moon in St.Thomas and found directions online for my mie tie!

I love my pouch sling but DH prefers the mei tai. I think he thinks the pouch looks like a purse :S

I made a mei tai for Katie. I wear her quite often still, on my back.
