    Default Jury Duty

I got a letter today to be on a Jury panel next month. Is it usually just one day to be at the courthouse for this? What does it mean that panel members are "on call" for 2-3 wks"?
I always wanted to be picked but of course this comes at a time when I'm about to do my community placement for school. If it's one day, it's workable, otherwise, it's gonna suck for me!

I got that letter last year, then another letter right before I was supposed to go in informing me that they would not be needing my services. Which was good, because it was awful timing for me too.

Nice, maybe I'll get one too (fingers crossed!). Thanks!

There are some ways you can get out of it. If you will incur a financial hardship, for example, or are self-employed etc.

Usually, they are calling in a pool of people to select a jury from. It might be more than 1 day, in total.

You might want to call them in advance, if you really think you can't do it (i.e. if missing more than 1 day of your placement will cause you to not pass or something) and explain your circumstances.

I got that letter 2 years ago, and I am not eligable to serve on a jury (different than not wanting to or being able to for financial reasons) so, I called and told them why I was inelligable and that I was not coming. I heard no more from them.
