    Question Solarveil fabric?

Does anyone know if you can buy SolarVeil fabric locally? I want to make a sling to wear my son in the shower and I know hotslings pool slings are made from solarveil. What else could I use?

    TIA

I believe the best place I could find it where they would ship to Canada at a decent rate was online via Wooska. They have NOOOOO idea what it is in the local fabric stores.

    Wooska

LMK if you decide to order and I might split on shipping costs with you as I've been wanting to buy some for a while.

I actually looked at Wooska last night. They are sold out of all but pink (22 yards of pink left). I don't know if I want a pink sling for my son, lol. I guess SolarVeil has stopped selling their fabrics.

Hmmm... That sucks. I don't want pink either

I do remember hearing that there was a Canadian equivalent to Solarveil but the name escapes me. Maybe Siana would know or has a source for the fabric? I know she made a MT recently with the turquoise.

The summer Mei Tais I made were all Solarveil. I heard a couple days ago the fabric was discontinued - what a pity

MMmama, what type of carrier are you thinking of making with the SV?

I was thinking of making a pouch, just for the shower and maybe the pool in summer. I've sewn a couple before, is Solarveil forgiving? I am a sewing novice.

Siana, I don't suppose you have any solarveil MTs left?

I remembered the Candian equivalent, it's called "Sunveil" and is from Oakville but it doesn't appear that they sell their fabric at all. Maybe you could contact them and ask?

If it's just for the shower, why not use a sports mesh? I would think the price would be cheaper, it would be strong and easy to get your hands on. Just a thought.

No, sorry MMmama, they sold quickly.

Solarweave is something I'm looking more in to for next summer. I don't like that it's not as airy as SV, though I'm sure the drying time isn't that different.

I'm pretty sure I have some SV kicking around here somewhere. It's in black. How much do you think you need?

I find SV is neither easy, nor difficult to sew with (depends on what technique you're using, yk) , though I've been sewing for several years now, so YMMV. A pouch is probably easy enough to make out of it, I would think. Perhaps you should check out the fabric before you commit to it, because it's slippery, but textured (some people aren't very tolerant to the texture, and it sounds like you'll be using it against bare skin).

why did they stop selling? I heard that their spf claims were inaccurate and I know wording had tp be changed in some advertisments claiming sun protection. (I heard this in regards to stroller covers made of it)

I have no idea why they've decided to stop producing/selling SV.

Hmmm. Black is actually what I wanted, lol. I think I used 2.5 metres last time I did a pouch but I'd have to double check. I used the pattern from Sleepingbaby.net. But it was two layered so maybe not that much...

I guess touching the fabric wouldn't be a bad idea. I don't think I'll be too picky...I'm just so afraid to drop the slippery guy in the shower, I'm tempted to just wear my stretch cotton one in there! And it would be nice for beach/pool later.

MilkyMama, where have you seen sports mesh? I usually buy my fabric at Lens Mills or Fabricland. I'm pretty clueless though, and half of the time the sales people seem to be too.

Come on out to the babywearing meeting this Tuesday. I'll bring my solarveil MT, and if you like the fabric, we can arrange for that black SV.

As in tomorrow right? It's at Babeez in Arms? I've never been there, what's it near on Wellington? What time does it start?
