Default How to

get a baby (about 4-5 months old) to take a bottle? I have a friend, who has a friend who is bf'ing and going nuts because she wants a little freedom but her wee one won't take a bottle. Anyone have good tips? I suggested playtex nipples because they seem more natural, also making sure the milk is warmed up. What else worked for you?

I would make sure that mom is FAR FAR FAR away. I swear babies can smell their mama for miles. That's what we do. He'll take it, as long as I'm not in sight.

I'm trying to get my 3 month old to take a bottle too.....i tried Avent bottles - NO, Gerber - NO
finally i think the NUK works - i have only tried this bottle 3 times, I am also finding i need to warm it up pretty warm.

I will be watching this thread for other tips.

I couldn't get my oldest to drink from a bottle at all. I tried a few different times and would not even be in the house and he still wouldn't drink. He would take a few sips and that was it. At 6 months, I just started giving him a sippy cup with a little breastmilk and for some reason, he seemed to like that more than a bottle. I would only give him a little bit each time and he would drink it so the next time I would give him a little more. I was even able to be at home with him and give him the sippy cup myself. I would warm up the milk before giving it to him.

With my youngest, I tried again to give him breastmilk in a bottle when we were at a wedding and again, he refused. I never really tried again after that and now, we are almost ready to start solids so he will be starting with the sippy cup and hoping that he likes that better than the bottle.

I agree with Mommy going away for a day so baby has only bottles to choose from. My DS takes bottles very well when I'm not around but no so much when I'm in the area.

When you discover the miracle way to get a baby to take a bottle let me know. DD refuses to take any formula, of any type, in any bottle. She won't drink breast milk either but at least she plays with the bottle instead of screaming her head off. We are hoping that once she starts some solids that maybe she will take some in a sippy. From people that I have talked to this seems to be a very common problem.

The small Nuk bottles and nipples with the larger ortho end worked for us.... heated a bit under the tap. Our dd took a sippy bottle with handles at 4 months no problems. Neither kid would touch formula -it was all pumped breastmilk.
