How did you get your LO to sleep through the night?
My DD is 5 months old. At 2 months, she slept through the night on many occasions. Now, at 5 months she wakes every night at least once, usually twice. She does not need to eat.....as if I try to nurse her she only eats an ounce or so and goes back to sleep. Sometimes I give her the soother rather than nurse and she goes back to sleep.
My other DD slept through the night at this age.
I'm not sure if the soother is causing her to not be able to put herself back to sleep without it?!
Co-sleeping is not an option I am just wanting to know any tricks of advice from moms who managed to get their LO to sleep through the night.
TIA

I consider my DD2 to sleep through the night, even though she sometimes wakes up crying, i put her soother back in and she goes right back to sleep.. So I guess I have no words of wisdom for you but maybe you can more her closer to you so that its not as far a walk when you need to put it back in her mouth?

I guess part of my question revolves around the soother.....should I use it? I find it VERY helpful in stopping car crying and she uses it at night when falling asleep. I guess now I am wondering if the soother is the reason she is not sleeping through? Could it be that the soother falling out wakes her and she can't self sooth? DD1 was not a soother user....and self soothed by 5 months and just went to sleep and slept through. Would it be a nightmare to get rid of the soother at this point?

Well I know I'm definitely not ready to give up the soother because I KNOW she won't fall asleep at night. When she wakes up in the middle of the night I know it isn't because of the soother falling out. I have seen many times that the soother comes out and she stays asleep for a long time. I've also seen her wake up and because she fusses the soother falls out.
Actually.. as I'm typing this, DD woke up for a second and her soother was IN her mouth.. I had to touch it and she went back to sleep.
I dont know what to tell you really... but if you dont have a hard time getting her to sleep I wouldn't really worry too much about it personally.
Have you considered trying to get her to nap a little bit more during the day? I find the better she naps the better her night time sleeps are. She seems much more relaxed and rested and able to have a better sleep.

I completely agree about the day napping. Today she just couldn't seem to settle. She had one 15-20 minute nap mid morning. Then slept 45 minutes at noon......I then moved her to the swing in desperation and she slept another 2.5 hours Some days she naps well during the day, so days not so much

Neither sleep through the night here. Aden was about 50/50 for a few months but now it is rare again.

It's pretty common for babies to still wake up, just be happy it's only once or twice. For a long time I could not get DS to fall asleep on his own and now finally, he will do it when he is tired enough but not overtired. It takes a lot of patience and taking away the soother doesn't guarantee sleeping through the night so it's up to you really but I think it will take awhile to get the hang of self-soothing.

She's five months old and only wakes once or twice?
You need to count your blessings.

I personally wouldn't blame the soother. Mine arbitrarily gave hers up at 10 months and it didn't change the sleep habits! If it is working for you, don't break a good thing ;D

My DD just started to sleep through the night, and she's 8 months old. She was a good sleeper before 3 months of age, then... she started to wake up once, then 2x... 3x... and then she was up every hour at night. I was soooo tired, but nothing helped. I had to nurse her at least 2x at night. Finally it got better when she was around 6-6.5 months old (when she was able to find her soother and put it in her mouth). And now she sleeps through almost every night.

i used the swaddle blanket( think its called swaddle me its about 30$) thing you can get a tummies to tots it has a money back guarantee. i laughed when my MIL brought it to me but it worked like a charm for my son. it looks like a baby straight jacket IMO but my son would move alot in his sleep and wake himself up by touching his face etc.
by the age of a yr he wouldnt sleep without it. we had to slowly wean him off of that blanket kinda like he was addicted to it. My son was oh 3/4 weeks when he was sleeping threw the night.
