Question Disability

What qualifies in the eyes if the government? DD was born missing her hand but can still do everything just altered. Once she gets a bit older there will be more physio, maybe prosthesis etc. With DH not working yet money is tight. How do I know if we qualify for help?

i really have no ideas.

Have you thought of contacting one of the health nurses and having them set you up with social worker who can help find out what you would qualify for?

I'm sure she would qualify. Talk to her doctor, as she will have trouble doing up buttons, dressing herself, etc when she is older, so this qualifies her alone.

Have you spoken to war amps yet? I'm pretty sure that's a Canadian program as well. Def. speak to your Dr. I can see what I can find.
I found this on the canadian gov't website

My advise is always apply to everything.. worse thing that can happen is that you invest the time/expense of the application process and they say no. You never know if you qualify until you try... and even then you can sometimes successfully appeal a rejection.

I have no idea how things work where you live since everything is very regional but look towards your doctors/schools/support services for guidance in addition to other parents out there. I will assume you must have some sort of central access center that can send out an intake worker to identify things that may be useful. Either way.. my experince tells me that it is often up to the advocating parent to really dig out the available resources since no one seems to really advertise or offere them.

Some great suggestions from PPs. I'm not sure but would think she might. If you're with CPRI or TVCC at all they may be able to advise you too. Good luck!
