Default Frustrated......

I want to sign up dd2 for activities to do in the summer. I have been looking at the spectrum and there really isn't a lot she can do. i thought of a 1/2 day camp where i could go with her but she has to be able to do so much that she is just not there yet.

I did email them about swimming. I want her to take duck again b/c she can't really continue on yet but she will be over the age limit by the time it is all over.

Is there somewhere I can look that things are geared to sn kids? I haven't looked at TVCC yet.

If you go to the TVCC website and then look for the Opportunities to Participate, you may find something in there.
I forget. How old is your daughter? Have you thought abouot soccer through A League of Our Own? I believe the youngest age is 4 years.

ETA: I'm off for the day, but I can tell you more about it later if it interestes you. DS plays. It's an awesome league.

I'm pretty sure that TVCC does offer activities for special needs children. I was offered swimming for my girls but we have a club pool so I'm fine with that. But you could give them a call and ask them what they offer; they're all about children; they're great!

Best wishes!

Maybe next year then! Don't worry about developmental age! A League of Our own was started by a parent of a child with Down syndrome. All players have Down syndrome and are divided by age groups. That branched in to the addition of a division for kids with other special needs, and now this is the third year that there is a division for kids with Autism. The starting age is 4 years - never mind developmental age! There are some changes this year, but basically the younger kids 4 - 10 years practise/play on Monday nights from May or June to August. There are usually enough volunteers that each child has someone on the field with them. If not, then a parent can be with them. They do drills and play games and stuff, while learning soccer. It is so much fun!

Come out and watch a practise this year. We play at Murray Park.

Have you tried contacting the Little Gym? I know some people find them expensive, but I know they work with kids with special needs as well and are quite proud of their achievements. They have a couple that stayed in the parent tot groups longer and only started walking at the age of 3. It might be worth asking them. They do camps during school breaks and you can call them to participate in the first class free. When we tried the free class they were not very pushy to try to get us to sign up, just a call a bit after the class to see how we liked it and if we would be interested...which I appreciated. Good luck!
