We finally have a Mic-Key!
I am so excited! After over 4 years of tube feeding we finally have a Mic-key!
Poor girl is in pain though cuz its a really tight fit. (we're gonn have to see about dilating it)
but the nurse was so nice, becuase we had some issues when we went to the tube feeding clinic and ended up not being able to get the mic-key put in then, she offered to come to our house and do it here on her way home from work. She's awesome!
this is going to make our tube feeding lives so much easier.

That is great news Ivveyy! You'll love having the mic-key! I hope L is feeling better soon. I gave DS motrin after his dilation on suggestion of the radiologist. I would imagine Tylenol might take some of the soreness out too...but he said the Motrin would reduce swelling (just not sure what L can have). Healing vibes for L!

Yayyy!
I didn't know that she didn't have one already. You will be sooooo happy to have it. No more taping (after a bit), you can take her swimming easily, everything about it is better!
SO happy for you guys!

What exactly is the difference? Pardon my ignorance. I've seen the Mic-Key's in the packaging at work but no idea how they work.

Now if I'm wrong or not great at explaining it, I hope someone will jump in to correct or clarify for me.
From our experience, quite simply the original g-tube had tubing that dangled outside the stoma site all the time and the mic-key is just a little button that you can disconnect all tubing from and close up to be relatively skin level. Our original g-tube had a curly pig tail type thing holding it into the stomach, had a disk on the outside part of the stomach that required constant cleaning and the tubing that had to be taped down so fleet little hands couldn't pull it out on you. Our mic-key still requires a daily cleaning around the stoma site but we have no more taping or extra tubing if his feed is not running. The constant taping sometimes does a number on thier skin if it is any bit sensitive. I should add that he still tries to pull on the tubing when it is attached or the button when it is exposed, but really it isn't as bad as before because that tubing would get caught on everything and we kept worrying we'd accidentally yank it out too.
I hope that makes some kinds of sense...

I know how to put it back in...just never have.
the nurse actually recomended that if it comes out to go to the ER. becuase its soo tight she doenst think I'll be able to do it, she had a hell of a time. Lilia was screaming in pain...it was actaully pretty tramatic. So shes looking into getting it bigger for us so we dont have to go through this every time.
