    Default OLYMPICS

With the olympics starting this week, I was just curious if anyone wants to share their most memorable olympic moment.....(except for Hockey I am looking for other sports)...again just curious and getting myself in the olympic spirit...

    I have 2

    1. When Donavan Bailey won the 100m sprint (I think in 96) it was a wicked race, he looked like a chicken and he got his world record...

    2. Last olympics when Jeremy Wootherspoon fell off the start to his long track speed skaing race...I cried..

any one else care to share???

I'm about to show my age, but I always remember Torvil and Dean. And I don't remember what year that was - LONG time ago! And that year the snowboarder lost his medal because he tested positive for pot. I was in the UK at the time and everyone there thought it was hilarious!

I remember watching diving before school and just as we were about to leave some guy hit his head on one of the lower boards after jumping off the 10m platform. How's that for a memory??

    Ouch!

I have no memory whatsoever of summer olympics, other than the whole Ben Johnson thing.

My favourite memory is the winter olympics in Japan and my sister was there. I watched the hockey game, Canada vs US, and saw her at the end of the game waving the flag

That was Greg Louganis from the US. I LOVED that guy. Turned out he had HIV when that happened and no one knew about it. He came out as gay and talked about that many years later.

My fave memory is the 88 winter olympics in Calgary. I was living there then. During the day I worked at the Saddledome and saw 14 hockey games. In the evenings I worked in the athletes village - basically as a conceirege to the athletes. Then after work at night I would go out with the athletes to parties or bars. Get home for an hour or two of sleep or just to shower and start the day over again. Summer of 89 I went to Sweden to hang out with a Spanish Luge athlete for a month!

One of the countries in the building I was responsible for was Jamaica! The Jamaican Bobsledders were hillarious. I remember when they crashed - I was at the saddledome and started to cry - couldn`t wait to get up to the village to make sure they were all okay!

Sal and Pelletier and the French judge fiasco. I remember the flawless skate, then the disappointing silver.

hmm....I have so many. I love both the summer AND winter Olympics. But probably the moment that has stuck in my head most often is the Sale/Pelletier freeskate. There was something about the air when they did that flawless program, you couldn't help but get wrapped up in it and stand up screaming and clapping at the end....and the silver. It was horrible and wonderful, and then horrible judging fiasco... but gold in the end, hurray!

Visually, the most memorable for me was Austrian skier Hermann Maier's EPIC crash at the 1998 Olympics, which he walked away from and then competed the next day to win gold in downhill skiing. That was pretty damn incredible!
