Autism Dog Services
Application Process
1) Fill out an application form.
(contact ADS to get one mailed or emailed to you)
2) ADS will visit the family for a home interview to determine if a dog will benefit the child and family.
3) If the family and ADS feel a dog will be beneficial to the child, the family will have their name added to the wait list until a service dog match is found.
4) While on the wait list families are invited to participate in training classes in order to familiarize the parents with handling dogs and to raise the child’s comfort level with dogs.
5) When a possible match is found, the family is introduced to the dog at their home in a series of shorter visits to determine the dog’s suitability for the child and family.
6) A match is found! Formal training will now begin at the family’s home and within the child’s own community.
This is what I was able to find for you... I could put you in contact with a family that is currently working with Wade if you like.

What about the cost I know its like 10,000 dollars for a dog. Is it true that you fundraise to pay for the dog. (my computer has gone french on me so the question marks are not here) Do you need to come up with the money.

from my understanding (which could be way off) you fundraise what you can. You participate in the fundraisers etc, and do what you can.

My friend is currently running several fundraisers to help raise funds for their dog who is hopefully matched now with their son. They had another, but she did not work out. Im am not sure of how it all works out - but Im slowly learning.
It is close to $18,000 dollars after the fact.

Did they need to raise the entire amount?

No you dont' have to raise the entire amount. Wade just asks as much as you can.
He also doesn't want the families to get stressd out about the fundraising.
For us we have a few fundraisers on the go right now. One is on March 22 and we are having a bowling party at Palasad south with a silent auction.
The other myself and two other moms are putting together a dance on April 17th at Players on Dundas and Calgary.
For more info on these pm me
ADS is like one big family where we all help out one another with fundraising ideas.
Yes the cost to train one of these great dogs is $18,000 but this is what it is for:
Regardless of who trains your autism service dog, the fee is the same. There is so much work put into these animals by their trainer and foster homes, that the cost seems very small in comparison to all the dog offers. Some of the things included in the $18,000 training fee are:
♥ purchase cost of the dog
♥ dog food
♥ veterinary care til the dog is transitioned into the new family's home (approx. 18 mths to 2 years)
♥ complete training of the dog to A.D.I. standards
♥ training for parents in the care and handling of the dog
♥ training the child and dog together as a team
♥ equipment and identification
♥ ongoing support as required for the working life of the dog
When broken down into a monthly cost, it is approximately $650 a month to train, foster and provide equipment, food and veterinary care for these dogs.
A small price to pay for the benefit these wonderful dogs provide.
ADS is a non profit oganization that is not governmentally funded. It relays on dontaions and fundraising events. One of the biggest sponser is Eukanuba they feed all the dog and puppies until they are placed with their child.
I hope that some of this helps. We are a wait list family and we are also fostering one of these great pups.
Again for more info please pm me.
