For MarioKart I do believe you need the wheel, but often it's lumped in with the game for a deal and if not, go to The Source (check online for other stores, I didn't price it there). I got one for $5 there and normally they are only $10.
You put the controller into the wheel.

A wheel came with ours but DS doesn't use the wheel because it's too hard (you just clip the remote into it)

Dance Dance REvolution and you need the dance mat for it.
We also love Rock Band in this house and Beatles Rockband.

Band Hero, Super Mario Brothers Wii and Wii Sports Resort are most popular around here right now. You need a Wii motion plus (a little thing that clips into your controller) and a nunchuk for each player for Sports Resort. Band Hero came with all the instruments. You don't need anything extra with S.M.B.

DS has scooby doo and lego batman and Ben10, they are a little difficult for him (ages 10+), but he likes playing them and has done well with scooby doo.
Guitar hero is way to hard for him to try (my sister bought it - but its fun for me
We just got Jumpstart Escape from Adventure Island - but I haven't seen him play it enough to say if its good.

We just have the remote and nunchuck.

Ooh...good timing on this thread for me. We got some $$ for xmas, and decided to buy a family gift with it - got a Wii tonight and now I can think about all the fun we can have playing it! I'll have to remember this thread when we're in the market for more games
