    Default My dog smells...

So normally I take him to Petsmart.. but that is $40.00 I don't want to spend anymore...

How do you bath your big dogs? What do you do? What do you use? He doesn't mind the tub... I just find every time I bath him... he smells just as bad when I am done...

But, then they just smell like wet dog... ?

What do the grooming places do to make them some nice and perdy?

just make sure you dry him off really well.

We use a dog anti itch shampoo, and it works really well. Our dog seems to have sensitive itchy skin.

DH used to put the dog in the shower. Much easier than lifting them into the tub (it was the claw footed style).

He found the dogs disliked the shower but knew that to follow was basically a massage, which they loved, because he'd have to dry them as much as possible before releasing them from the bathroom or i'd freak out. I loathe wet dogs more than I hate regular dogs (in my house. Yours are fine )

They did smell odd at first til they dried. Then smelled normal, and a bit like raspberries.

We only wash the dogs in the summer, outside with the hose. Regular dog shampoo. Doesn't really take their stench away though, but probably cause they swim in the thames river all the time. Make sure you are not bathing your dog too often as it is bad for their skin. I think I heard/read that twice a year is all they should get.

We take ours in the winter to a doggy car wash. It costs under $10 and we don't have to clean up our house / tub afterwards. We just use regular dog shampoo. We have a lab and he smells goood!

There is a spray you can just spray on your dog and that sometimes helps the smell instead doing a bath. My dog loves the blow drier so I use that to dry him off, I also sometimes add in some baby powder. Good luck.

I have to bathe my big guy too. He's in desperate need, esp. with Christmas coming. Ever since he had his surgery and his legs aren't as good any more, he's very sensitive about his legs and feet and I'm actually not comfortable sending him to be groomed somewhere in case he gets upset and growls if they're touching his feet the wrong way. It's fine if it's me, I know he's mad cause of his surgery. Anyway, I have used doggie shampoo before, but usually find that baby shampoo is good too. The trick is that you have to rinse really well, with good warm water, and dry off well too.

I take my dogs to the groomer every 6 weeks.

They get de shedded, bathed, nails clipped, folds cleaned, ears cleaned, teeth brushed and anal glands emptied (no way I am doing this one at home)

They always come back smelling like coconuts.

Its about 50 bucks for a small dog, I have no idea about large breeds.

But for me its worth the money.

I also have a furmurator if you want to borrow it?
Its a great comb that combs out all the under coat, it makes a HUGE difference with smell and shedding.
