Default What do you pack in your picnic?

During this time of year we eat at least one meal at a park 3-4 times a week. I am getting pretty bored of the same old picnic items. I am looking to spice things up with some new (yet quick and easy) ideas. What does everyone pack to bring to the park?

    * Hummus and veggies (carrots and celery typically)
    * Lots of fresh seasonal fruit - washed and prepared where necessary (in the winter I often take lots of dried fruit and nuts instead)
    * Granola with lots of dried fruit and seeds
    * Mixed Bean salad (with red onions, olives, artichokes and roasted red peppers in a basic vinaigrette)

Shawna, I was inspired by the green beans you brought for your girls at the Babywearing group a couple months ago. DD thinks they're great for trips (she likes it with hummus too). We also love sugar snap peas, though we only had then in the late spring when they were in season locally.

Thanks. I usually get weird comments from people who think it is strange that my kids eat things like broccoli, green beans and peas while we are 'on the road'. I don't make hot lunches at home so what we pack for picnic is pretty much what we eat at home.

I was telling someone about your avocado date concotion and they were very impressed. I couldn't remember the exact receipe except that it was fairly simple. Can you remind me?

    Talking

    The Healthiest Chocolate Pudding Ever!
(and it actually tastes like traditional chocolate pudding )

    2-3 avocados
1 3/4 cups dates, putted, cut up soaked in 1/2 - 3/4 cup water
3 tablespoons cocoa powder (can use carob)

In a blender, place avocados and blend until smooth. Add dates, a few at a time, with water and blend until smooth. Add cocoa and blend until mixed in. Pour mixture in a serving bowl and chill.

    (Modified from this recipe)
