    Default cell phone for home phone?

    let me talk this out

    homephone = about 50$/month
    same number I've always had

    cell phone= new number, and 22.25/month (250 any time, weeknights after 6, weekends free) + tax. so half the costs.

    WWYD? honestly? why do I 'have' to have a home phone.

    I have a cell phone, but this one would be just for the house.

    do you think you will stick with in the 250 min? what about long distance? long distance on a cell is expensive

    and why are you paying so much for your home phone? I pay 30ish and get 1000 minutes long distance call display and something else

    because I'm with bell.
    i called today, and they can save me 3$/month. that's it.
    it's a 30 something package, then all the 911/ touchstone etc. etc.

    IF you can stay to the 250 minutes( remember thats 4 hours 10 minutes per month broken down) then go for it.

    My DH and I both had cell phones rather than one land line for about two years. Watching your minutes is a bit of a trick, especially when you need to make calls during the day but have to wait on hold (think 1-800 numbers). Also, long distance is expensive - we got a long distance plan through Primus that helped, but I still found myself thinking twice before calling someone who lived farther away. Remember too that 20-30 minutes away can be long distance.

    We eventually got a land line when my sister moved in with us because there needed to be a phone at home in case of emergencies. Having the land line back = using the phone more, which was a good thing because we'd been watching our minutes like hawks and cutting conversations short because of it. We ended up reducing our cell phone packages and have never looked back.

    Our land line is through Rogers, though, and it is not $50 a month!

    If you are really unsure, I would call Bell back and see if you can get a better deal. We looked at doing that a few months ago and got out bell bill down from $166ish to 99ish. That is TV, phone (with unlimited long distance and internet). Just tell them you are thinking of switching to Rogers because they can offer you a better deal.

    We did that for a while, and it was worth it at the time.

    Then we got phone through our cable company and it was so much cheaper and free long distance in North America.

    You can keep your number now when switching companies.

    I have a friend that just switched back to a land line, remember that you use mins when people call you and when you call them. is 22.50 also include the system fee pluss the 911. I have a phone throught Rogers and it is only 20 a month. maybe you can bundle your cable, internet and landline and get a better deal through Rogers. Did you threaten to leave bell?

    The thing about a land line - if you call 911 and get cut off before you can give them you address, they know where you are. A bit of money for piece of mind.
    I pay $25 incl taxes for my land line through Rogers.

    I'm a home phone person, with kiddos in the house I wouldn't want to risk a dead battery, or the inability to locate our home in am emergency. Our landline doesn't cost anywhere near $50 though. We're under $30 with call display (and have $0.02/min long distance).

    theres an aftermarket 'thingy' that you can hook up your self phone into your home phone line, and the home phones/wallphones are usable
