Default Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for kids

Who do you recommend? What did you like about them?

I have reached the point several times of taking my son to see someone only to back down. I got a referral from our pediatrician last year to a psychiatrist but cancelled when they called to set up the appointment because I really, really don't want to medicate.
But I still think he...okay we...need some help, and the more I read about CBT, the more I think this is the way I want to go.

I took DS to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health centre through LHSC.
    Adolescent Mental Healthcare Program
We had an intake session with a counselor and then some 'get to know you' sessions with the counselor. Her recommendation was that DS be seen by the psychiatrist and unfortunately her recommendation was prozac, which I declined. However, once I declined the meds they did offer to do CBT with me. I stopped going there because I felt I was being judged for homeschooling rather than sending DS back to school all drugged up.

How old was your DS MOFO? DD is still having a lot of problems with anxiety, she's happy to go to school but she's so anxious about asking the teacher qu's that she actually wet her pants at school during circle time and then hid it from the teacher and came home with wet pants. That's the major example but it shows up in a lot of things, she's only 4.5 and we've had dr's say she has anxiety, a psychometrist say she doesn't believe in it at this age, etc, I don't want to medicate her either but would like to help her in some way.

    Sorry for the hijack Liisa!

I called them when DS had problems at the start of grade 1, he would have been 6.

CBT and meds can work together, or alone, but either way you need to find someone who will support your effort to assist your child. Drs should be team members, not owners or referees etc. If you are not happy with one, look again. I have no advice other than that. Find a match and everyone will benefit, non matching does not help at all.

So no one has anyone specific they would recommend? I get that I need to find someone right for us, but I am just looking for a starting point, I guess.

I know a great psychotherapist...Jodi Tiller. She works on Central Ave. Not sure if she does CBT though.

I'm not sure what the issue is, but if it's anxiety, I borrowed this book from the library and found it was helpful. It's basically DIY CBT.
