Can anyone tell me about it?? I know when you get it, got doc to fill out papers, I want to know how long it took to get the payment. DS was diagnosed in 2006, do I get back paid??

from what im told, yes you get back paid.

I've heard it also takes quite a bit of time to process

We;re still waiting on Matthews.

yes you do, i think up to 5 years or something.

we got a nice little chunk...like 4 thousand our first month. it took a couple months for it to go through and all that.

yes thats the forms and yes they back date to diagnosis

It me a few months to get mine for D but the certificate is good till she is 12 then I have to reapply

What everyone else said plus it's a tax credit so you can go back without question 3 years on your taxes plus CRA has the authority to go back 10 years if it will get you a refund or reduce what you would have owed.

A doctor decides whether the child qualifies - don't let CRA tell you they don't (so long as the doctor completes the forms properly). There is a list of things that the child must need help with on a daily / weekly basis in order to qualify - it's all laid out on the form.

MAKE AND KEEP AT LEAST ONE COPY of the signed form from the Doctor - you may be asked (over and over again) by CRA for a copy since they don't seem to keep them around even if it hasn't yet 'expired'.

ETA: just in case it's applicable to anyone reading - the rules changed in 2000 to make it easier for a child diagnosed with certain chronic diseases (Juv. diabetes etc) that may not limit their ability to be independent but still take up a total of at least 14 hours of week of the child plus family / caregiver time to manage.

When did you apply? I was told by the doctor it could take about 8 weeks.

Thanks for all the help. I copied it and am sending it by registered mail to the Sudbury office. That way I know when they receive it. I have all the forms, thanks, the doc filled them out today. My DS has a few impairments with his JRA and ADHD, the doc said he should have no problems getting it. If all is right and I did the calculations right, I should be back paid till 2006, it says I need to send a separate form or a written note about the tax years to adjust that also. So I wrote a note, to send with the forms. I will copy those also.

I had them mail me the forms it took about 10 days from the day I called and asked them to mail the app to when I got it

We applied May 5th and got ours in the bank on July 20th

Wow! I was told today it may take up to 16 weeks! I hope it comes on next months payment. Still no letter from the government.
