Daegan insisted on going to bed with underwear last night. I shuddered internally because he is the kid who leaks through night-time pullups and doesn't care... even wets/soils his daytime underwear and doesn't care. I tried reasoning with him... even suggested he wore underwear but put a pull-up on over it just in case... but he was beyond that and not willing to negotiate. Well, I let him go to bed in underwear and guess what... bone dry!!! WOW!!!! This is certainly huge.. even bigger when I factor in that it is his 8th birthday today. He was dry the last night of being 7. Don't know what will transpire tonight... I plan to simply wing it and not get my hopes up either way... it will be interesting.

Even if only for the one night for now. He wanted to do it and showed he could. That is just great on so many levels!!! Happy birthday too!!! I bet it was extra special!

He didn't ask the next night.. and I'm thankful for that. We had dinner at my parents place thus ate “differently“ and he had the runs when we got home. No worries... it is a huge step... I know he is getting closer to being ready on his own terms.

I have to comment on something which floored me over the weekend.

DD is extremely impulsive and once she is “set off“ she is almost impossible to bring back down. Well, on the weekend, she got in trouble for something --- hitting or kicking or something like that --- so she was taken to her room to chill out and think about it. She went through her usual rage - throwing things at the door, stomping, screaming so loud her voice got hoarse. After a while she quieted down, but I was not ready to go talk to her yet so I left her for a while. Well, she was so quiet I sort of forgot about her (ssh, LOL). I went up about 15 minutes later and she wasn't in her room. I walked down the hall and she was curled up in the baby's bed under his blanket, eyes closed, glasses off. I said “What are you doing?“ and she said “I wanted to come in here and lay down. Sometimes laying down to rest helps me to calm down when I'm upset. I like Iain's room, it makes me happy“.

I started tearing up because she NEVER shows that kind of self awareness. And granted, this was *after* the rage, but she knew enough to know that she had to calm down. I was so flipping proud of her at that moment.
