    Post Grade 1 School Supplies???

So, I was at Walmart last night and saw they had lists there of what supplies were required for each grade - seems to be a generic list and the list for Grade 1 is insane (IMO). So, I am looking for a realistic list of what I need to send with dd to school for Grade 1. She is attending Blessed Kateri so not sure if there is a difference between TVDSB and London District Catholic School Board. Or, do I just send her with a backpack/lunch and see if the teacher sends home a list on the first day???

you can do that, they certainly don't expect you to have everything the first day. For my dd's school this is what she needed for grade 1( it's the same for grades 2 and 3)

    pencils
    erasers
    ruler
    crayons/pencil crayons
    glue stick
    kleenex

that's pretty much it. oh and a pencil case to store it in if you choose.

ds is going into grade 2, Catholic board - last year - backpack and lunch bag, box of kleenex, indoor shoes.
All other items were optional but encouraged to have at home for homework purposes - scissors, crayons/markers/pencil crayons, ruler, paper

Those lists at the stores are not put together buy the schools!

The stores love producing long comprehensive lists of things to purchase I'd send her with her backpack, shoes, lunch and wait to see from teh teacher if there is even anything you need to buy.

DD is going into gr1 as well, thanks so much for this thread.
I was also wondering what about gym clothes, when do they start that? I know with JK & Sk all we needed to provide were gym shoes and they changed into them as soon as they got into school, is that the same in gr1?
Also does everyone buy a new lunch pail and backpack every year, DD is using the same as last year as I can't imagine buying a new one each year!?

DH wants to buy dd a new backpack..more of a grown up 'Grade 1' backup instead of the Barbie one she has now LOL
I am getting her a new lunchbag since I find the one she has now to be too small. Lots of sales on right now for backpacks so we are going to check them out..but I want her to get a nice generic one that will last for a while (without any characters on it)

I found the list of supplies required directly from the TVDSB website - Supplies for Students Just scroll to the bottom and you'll see the requirements for all the grades. Hope that helps!

Last year my DD1 (in LDCSB) needed:

    pencil case
    pencil/s
    eraser
    pencil sharpener
pencil crayons or markers - the skinny ones (but she told me half way through the year that most had both)
    glue stick
    scissors
    indoor shoes
    backpack and lunchbag

Gym clothes were only for gymnastics in the winter and we had lots of notice on when/what to bring.

Then for the classroom they were asked to bring in tissues, paper towel, and hand sanitizer (same with my JK kid).

They sent home a list on the first day. I full recommend waiting if you don't want to buy it all anyway. The sales are better after school starts anyway!

I also strongly recommend putting labels on everything. DD1 didn't lose a single pencil crayon or pencil.

FYI-I often find that the parents purchase ear buds, and then the kids won't/can't use them because the buds don't fit will in a 6 year old's ear. I always recommend that parents buy a cheap pair of old school headphones.

So I was snooping around on our school website and one of the grade 1 teachers posted on her sight that everything essentially is provided (supply wise) -- kids can bring in a separate pencil case with pencil crayon/markers/sharpener but she provides crayons, pencils, glue, rulers, etc.
