Default Being a foster parent

does being a foster parent mean I have to be home 24/7 or are there different kinds of foster parenting I can do?
Can I pick the age and sex of the children, or pick only short term/long term kids?

There are many different needs when it comes to caring for the children that are supported by the Children's Aid Society. If you wish to care for young children then it is generally desirable for one parent to be home full time. If you wish to work with school age or older children then having both parents working outside the home is not an issue.

Once you are approved foster parent your resource worker will go through the ages, stages, and issues that you are willing to work with. Obviously the broader your range the more likely you are to be used regularily.

There are many different ways families can help ranging from relief care (weekend respite) to short term, long term or emergency care. Your resource worker will discuss all the options with you to help you make the best decision for your family.
