    Default Apt people...

If you live in an apt building, are you allowed to use a bbq on your patio/balcony? I know we were not allowed to use on in Cambridge at our apt because of fire regulations.

I lived on the 3rd floor of a 3 storey walk up. I'm just asking because my co-worker just moved onto the ground floor of an apt building and won a 1300.00 bbq.

We lived on the top (7th) floor of an apt and we used it all the time during the summer. Lots of other tenants BBQ'd too. Our landlord said something about how he didn't care if ppl did or not when we moved in which was nice b/c we got a BBQ as a wedding gift and it would have sucked to not be able to use it!

You can have a bbq, its the propaine that is the issue!!!

you cannot bring it in an elevator as its is a compressed gas and is volitile. If the container exploded you could cause serious damage to the build and could kill someone

Mine says we're not allowed to have a bbq. I live in a 3 storey walk-up. Every tenant in the buildings here has a BBQ save a few. Some propane, some charcoal....

That said, I've been happily bbq'ing year round on the second floor with a propane BBQ for three years and nobody has said a word.

We were told they weren't allowed when we were living in an apt, but we had one and we used ti regularly. No one ever said anything to us. We were on the 7th floor of an 8 floor building

We have one on our 3rd floor balcony...I recall something in the lease saying we couldn't have one, but there are very few balconies on our side of the building that don't have one...and we are in a pretty big building. I walk the propane up to the apartment just in case...

Technically, though, propane should never be transported in a closed vehicle without the proper signage...so isn't it illegal for me to bring it home from the Canadian tire in the trunk of my car?

When I lived in a apt we were allowed to have a BBQ just not allowed to bring the propane up on the elevator. Had to be brought up the stairs.

We were told by the fire department that it was illegal to have a propane BBQ on a balconey.... however, our landlord stated that they usually just turn a blind eye, but if a fire inspector happened to come by the fine for it would be ours to pay.
