    Default Gonna start cereal....

My DD is on special premie formula that seems to be high in iron... am finally able to start her on cereal (6 months corrected on the 12th!) but am worried that it will end up being too much iron.... does anyone know of a cereal that has no added iron in it?!

Nope...but wanted to say good luck.
What if you make it with Water instead of formula?

I'm not sure if they all do or not but what if you skip cereal? I know many people do but forget what they start first, I think things like banana and avocado. We'll probably do it this way this time so I should probably look into more when we start solids but we'll wait for the dr's okay for that though with his allergies.

Can you make your own instead of using boxed cereal? Or is there a reason your little one would need the packaged stuff? Then you wouldn't have to worry about all the iron...

I thought most cereal was iron fortified because babies need more after 6 months?
I was thinking the same as a previous poster that maybe you could make your own? I am pretty sure that I have seen other posts about making your own cereal awhile back.

have you thought about just going to veggies? i read the cereal box and doesn't seem like there's much in it...i'm planning on skipping it with dd2. we'll start with squash, carrots, maybe banana.
Stop thinking you’re not ready. – Nobody ever feels 100% ready when an opportunity arises. Because most great opportunities in life force us to grow beyond our comfort zones, which means we won’t feel totally comfortable at first.

I second this. Cereal is necessary for formula fed babies after six months because they dont get enough iron. Since that isnt as issue, babies do great on fruit and veggies first!

hmmm, dd2 is only 50% boob, and i tend to have low iron...?

I thought the argument was the other way around, that babies had enough stores for about the first six months at birth, but that if they were only breastfed they were likely to need more iron after six months because you don't get a lot through breastmilk

So -- we started cereal tonight at “dinnertime“ for the first time and I must admit, this is the one area that I feel completley lacking in terms of parenting. I have done the readings, research online yada yada but I was still really nervous about this -- aka me not doing it right.
Madi was not a fan tonight but I am sure that will get better (we hope).... how did you all go about introducing solids to your baby?! What times did you find worked best? How often a day did you do it etc??? TIA

I did solids in the am. Started with bananas. I made everything myself even the cereal. I just bought brown rice, ground it in a food processor/coffee grinder thing and then boiled it. He hated it - only ever did it a couple times. Did the same thing with oatmeal.
