Default solids - refusing

My DD made a really great start on solids and we had her eating cereal and most veggies, but over the last 2 weeks or so she is refusing to put anything in her mouth .... except toys and her fingers. She still takes the bottle OK and like I say she will put toys in her mouth but food .... that is a no go, and if you do get it in her mouth she just gets her tongue and pushes it right back out. She is nearly 8 months now and it is getting a little frustrating.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

I would say this is a phase, and most likely is due to teething. Just keep trying and offering different things, and keep with the bottle so that she's getting her nutrition.

My DD#2 is also 8 months old and I understand where you're coming from. Every day is a little different than the one before. Just keep offering her solids a couple times a day and try to relax. It sounds like your DD isn't very interested for whatever reason, but it'll probably change soon.

i would also say that it might have something to do with the teething! As long as she is getting her milk and you are trying the foods! She will eat when she is ready! Have you tried arrowroot cookies or those teething cookies?

Just keep trying

If I'm remembering the right thing; they have the teething cookies in the grocery stores, usually above the jarred food. They're biscuits made out of pablum. They're hard cookies but mush up easily (so no choking) and may seem like a "treat" that is actually a meal. I think there's original and banana flavour. They have toddler biscuits too! My kids loved them!

You could try the Farley cookies as well. For some reason they're hard to come by anymore, but I know that they have them at Shopper's and A&P. Just be careful though, as they do have sugar in them. Good luck!

I buy the "Farley's Biscuits" at Wal-Mart or Food Basics. I haven't found them hard to find, but maybe it's because I stick to only a few stores.

I find the best time to give DD#2 a Farley's Biscuit is at our mealtime. It keeps her really preoccupied and happy...and of course really, really mucky! She loves to eat it with only a diaper on. ...Don't you love summer?
