Default Sitting Tree School - anyone have info?

Sitting Tree School and Nature Programs There was an open house today and we went, there will be another one on July 8th?? I believe? They also have a summer camp which we are considering. The space is beautiful, the school is brand new, just wondering if anyone has heard about it and what are your thoughts?

I picked up a flyer when getting bread at Village Harvest on Saturday and it only mentioned the July 8th info night not today's open house, I guess I should have checked out their website earlier.

From the website info and photos it sounds great “ We offer a full time school with an Earth Based curriculum and creative arts. Sitting Tree also provides a home school program on fridays as well as various community programs that include school trips, corporate team building, class visits, and more.“

Was 2008/2009 there first year of operations in London? I've never heard anything about them.

Sounds like M might really enjoy some of their programs.

I think the first school year will be 09/10 but they have summer camp for two weeks.

Is this a London original - or is it modeled off a program of teaching that is in place in other areas?

Checked it out - very interesting. The information seems a bit sparse on the website though.

It is heavy on the 'philosophy' of their program but it doesn't take about fees, schedule or any of the particulars. I checked out the homeschooling part and there wasn't anything there to tell me age groups, fee or what the program would really look like.

I am intrigued but a bit turned off by the lack of info.

LOL M's dad made fun of that too.

Yeah I want to know fees, structure, curriculum, more about the teacher qualifications.

I did find out today that the program is K-6, homeschooling program is Fridays. And it is housed in this big building behind Parkwood Hospital, set right in the woods. The main classroom has amazing toys.

I also know Kim Stark a little bit and she used to do the religious education at the UU. And she talked about learning the same things as the public schools but in different ways. For example for grade 3s there is a unit on structures, and at Sitting Tree she said they would be building houses in the woods, so doing math to figure out materials, ordering stuff, planning the design of the houses, and then actually building them.

I saw a very small segment on the news tonight about this and was very curious. I'll be watching this thread and maybe going to the open house.

ETA: I browsed through the website and I agree it is a bit sparse but I'm also concerned that the staff doesn't seem to have too many credentials. Perhaps they are not listing them? Personally, I would like to see a bit more academic weight behind the teachers, but I like the philosophy, so I may still check it out.
