    Default Smocking? Any experts here?

Does anyone here smock? I was thinking it might be a nice project to sit down with while DH watches TV...
    Thanks!
(Although it might be more fun to just go out and buy DD smocked dresses... :P )

I think it is a lost art. I don't smock (I can't even repair a hole in a sock), but I have three beaustiful smocked dresses hand made by DH's great grandmother 35 years ago in hopes that he'd be a girl. They've never been worn until now. People stop me when she's wearing them. One of the dresses was unfinished and my MIL spent months trying to find someone who could finish it for her. You should get into it, maybe there is a business opportunity????????

I was in Westmount this week and there is a Seniors Shop on the upper level near the water fountain at the center of the mall. They had dress' in the front window that I think were smocked. If your by there you might want to check it out.

    Hi there
My mother in law can smock..............it is a dying art but I've seen some samples of her work and it is very pretty..............some of the finest native wear shows some fantastic smocking work, very intricate work, but she can do it!! Don't know if you are interested in some lessons but if you are, I'd have to speak with her about it, she's teaching me a few of the dying arts like smocking, embroidery, tatting, etc. I can already knit and sew a bit, I'd like to see if there are any other sewers out there on the site.
