    Default A/C broken

The a/c in the van is broken. Can I get this fixed at a regular place or do I need to go somewhere special? We normally go to Mufflerman near Masonville so we'd probably take it there (unless people have superb suggestions ).

I know there can be different things wrong with it, but has anyone ever had an a/c fixed? What was wrong with it? How much $$?

It still 'blows' just not cold anymore. Two people have said that the compresser probably just needs a charge but neither knew how much that would be.

No recommendations, I've been 2 years without AC in my 98 Jeep. Have a read of this though, it gives you some ideas.

The A/C is gone in my car. Still blows - just not cool air. Unfortunately, because of where the unit is placed i the vehicle, the entire dash has to come off, and then the repairs can begin. We've been told $1200 - $1500.

We roll the windows down in the car now.

Hope you have a more minor repair!

Depending what is wrong with it, an A/C machine may be needed, but most shops have them. The muffler man likely does.
As for cost, AC problems are usually either cheap ($50) or really expensive ($1000), from my expereince, there isn't a middle!
Good Luck! Better to find out now, then in the middle of heat spell of 35 degrees!

Yeah we're hoping it is a cheap fix, or it won't be happening.

If its the compressor it could be expensive. My parents compressor is gone in thier van and my brother is looking for one for them because of the cost. (My bro is a class A mechanic)

Ohhhh called mufflerman - they don't do a/c's but they said it could be as simple as a fuse broken. Praying that that's all it is. We're taking it in tomorrow.

A simple way to check if it is a major or a minor fix it is to sit with your car idling, and turn on the A/C. If you hear the motor idle down, then it's probably minor - it probably just needs to be charged or have freon added to it. If there is no difference in the idle rate of the motor when you turn the a/c on or off, then it *could* be the fuse, but more likely it would be the compressor - I had replaced mine in a 2002 Cavalier at Canadian Tire for $1000. Ouch. And it's not working again, just over a year later. I would definitely try calling your dealership - I took my DH's Buick Lesabre to HMP Motors to get them to check the a/c and fix the condensor (I think - it was different than my Cav) and it was cheaper than CTC - I think it was $600-$700.

    Good luck with your a/c!

My Corolla had the air go - that was 9 years ago and they told me it would be $500 to test if it was the freon and then more to repair if it was. My ac went recently in my 17 month old van - it was the hose - and luckily it was under warranty. Good luck - otherwise invest in one of those dash fans the plastic clip on thingy's

I know it wouldn't be freon, vehicle is too new for that. I'll get hubby to do the idle check thing.

We've had fuse issues before with this vehicle so mabye , hopefully that.
