I was just checking Teresa Pitman's blog in Today's Parent and watched this video. For those who do not understand spanish, there's a little description there. It's a real family (not actors) and the birth of their second child (a baby girl) in their mattress in their home.

It's funny,just a few days ago I was watching The Mom Show (can you tell I'm on mat leave??) and their Dr Dave was debating with this mom about homebirths, and he was being so obnoxious!! He wouldn't even let the poor woman finish a sentence and was making it look like the worst decision ever to have a homebirth. I was so mad, I even sent then an e-mail complaining but it bounced back and then I didn't have any more time to deal with this.

Iloved the video. What a great example of how calm and easy birth can be! The mother was smiling as her baby emerged into her hands. Lovely. And so different from some of the typical North American images of mothers out of control and unable to cope that we so typically see and that are presented as the norm.

Did you read the comments at the bottom? Apparently homebirth is uncommon there too, and it's creating a big stir.

That was beautiful! I have tears in my eyes. I showed my kids We then talked about their births. I got to reach down and bring my son up to me when he was born too, and that is one of my fondest memories.
