My 5 year old rocks with my baby...
omg. This age difference is so fabulous in our house. M LOVES her little sister SO much. Takes care of her, plays with her, amuses her in the car, shares bits of food with her, etc etc all day long. So. freaking. sweet. And the baby loves her too. Yesterday her dad was taking care of both of them while I wrote my exam, and M wouldn't let him push Z in the swing, coz only M knows how high she likes to go.
Isn't that freaking adorable? I've posted the hard stuff before about 5, but some of it is so amazing. This big sister love for teh baby is one of those things. Wild.

I agree..i have the smae thing with my almsot 5 year old and the baby.
the difference between Aurora and heyden is huge compared to Aurora and lilia (who are onyl 17 months apart) she is so great with him, and i swear she is heydens favourite person in the world.

It's so neat eh Ivveyy! I was worried about 'too big of a gap.' Nope. It's not like they are playmates in the way they would be if they were closer in age, but this big sister role is so special. She was the first to hold her. Heck she cut her umbilical cord. So nice.

My son was almost four when dd came along, but it was the same thing - he's always been awesome with her. I love how most nights when we do our 'favourite part of the day' etc stuff at supper, dd will just grin wordlessly and point at her brother lol. That's her favourite part...any part that included him.
She may have crazy hair and insist on wearing rubber boots and a hard hat 90% of her waking hours, but he just sees his sister. She may hog the only hockey stick most of the day, to drag around after her (not to play hockey with), she may insist he read Po's Magic Watering Can 8 times in a row....but he still has the patience to help her up when she trips, to show her how to blow bubbles, or to tickle her with his hair til she says 'dada!' which means, in her world, AGAIN!.
 Aren't kids great.

P turned four two weeks after D was born. He WORSHIPS her. He turned his head to her voice at two weeks old, he smiled when he heard it. He laughed most to her. She understands him better than I do, they do everything together. He wants to be with her all of the time and misses her terribly when she's gone. I love their age gap, it worked out perfectly for them.

oh myrrah, that is SO SWEET!!! makes me just want to squeeze the crap out of them when they do sweet stuff like that!
my DS is 4 with a new baby sister and so far he's been very hot and cold about it. i've wondered if part of it is being a boy (not that i'm trying to assume differences, but i've just noticed that sometimes the little girls seem to have more of the 'mother hen' instinct?)
anyway, sometimes he loves to help...with baths and stuff and he's SO sweet about it. she is sooo interested in him and always looks at him when she hears him....and those times, he'll often say "nooo! i don't want her to look at me!" LOL
the odd time, though, when he thought i wasn't looking and she was in her bouncy seat, i've caught him fussing over her and trying to show her toys and stuff....so i'm pretty sure there's hope, lol

I couldn't agree with you more...The times when X and C get along makes up for the times when they don't ykwim...
C loves giving X hugs and kisses. Ohh and when C gets up first he goes to X's bed climbs in and cuddles with him

Myrrah I see it here too!!
When both kids were at my parents a few hours last week DD told grandma everything she had to do. DS lights up the minute DD gets home from school and she is the only one who can get a full out laugh attack from him.

i like the 5 year age difference, i'm 5 years older than my sis and i can't remember ever not getting along with her. if i have a third kiddo, i'm waiting until this one is 4-5.
nice to have the extra hands avail too.

Allie, that is just adorable that's the same age difference as my son and daughter....so far he's sort of neutral most of the time, but i'm hoping that once she's a little older and can interact with him, he'll be more excited about her
i'm loving this thread.....i've said "awwww...." at least a half dozen times, lol
