    We think so!
We (Shannon and I) went to The Farm a couple weeks ago and took a course with Ina May Gaskin. There were several doulas in the group so we asked them how they get the word out that they attend births. Shannon and I attend births for our Naturally born students and that keeps us busy enough. But, neither of us are attending any births right now (me with a fresh baby and Shan taking a break for other reasons). So, we want to help encourage women to consider having birth support. The women in Tennessee described this idea to us and I coined it "speed dating for a doula" good stuff!
If you know of any labour support person who may want to participate, let them know!

Get your hands on a copy of Spirtual Midwifery by Ana May Gaskin, and then you can drool with me!

The farm was founded by a bunch of hippies as a birthing commune, than originated by a number of births on a travelling van.

For you Stats lovers check this out! Ina May - Author, Activist, Innovator

nothing else on this website does the what is in the book justice, you really must read.

Hahha - yep, spiritual midwifery is an amazing book!

I think everyone who may consider themselves a "birth junkie" should go either for the course or just to meet her. It was a life changing experience spending a week with her and the midwives there.
At our closing circle we were all wailing and I lightened the mood with "hey - I get to tell people I breastfed at the dinner table with Ina May!"
She laughed and thought we should put that as a slogan on a t-shirt.
They are incredible spirits. It was an amazing experience.

Awesome! Tell all your labour support friends! I will just need a head count before the evening so I set up enough stations. Also, if I get some posters made up could you put them up in a few places in your hood? Any places you can advertise it, do so!

    Shawn,
Can you give us an idea of how it will work? Will it be casual or will there be a process?

    Thanks!

A bit of both! We are casual women in general around here but recognize the need for order when order is needed. We want to make sure everyone has a chance to meet each support person with some extra time at the end to go back and talk to someone they connected with.
You're welcome to check it out!

When I told my dh that I was going to a "speed dating for doulas" night, he looked at me like I had an extra head & said "what for? you're already married - is there something I should know?" hahaha

Awesome! Any advertising efforts are appreciated. I imagine it will grow over the months, but we gotta get the word out there. There are lots of free places to ad, we should all pull together and plaster it everywhere we can think of. (here included
