We have a big Bummis wet bag that we use to store them, and pretty much do everything the same as at home. It's kind of a pain when you're actually driving, because if you use something with covers then you can't just wipe/rinse the cover and hang it to dry in the car, KWIM? You can still do it but it's just more of a pain and something you'll want to think about ahead of time. I save the easier to use diapers (AIOs and pockets) for the actual car trips. Then once I get to wherever I'm going it works just the same as at home and that's when I prefer to use the fitteds and prefolds. I don't find they stink up the car. GL!

Is it completely a road trip ? Or are you staying somewhere? With staying somewhere I would probably do cloth. It is probably harder if you're going to have a bag in the car and be roadtripping since it is hot. I'd keep the bag in the trunk to keep the smells down
Can I ask why the disposables at night? have you tried cloth? I didn't run in to problems of being able to leak through crazy amounts of stuff until after 18 months

friday night we are staying at friend's out near orangeville, then saturday night we are staying at a farm for a wedding near whitby. apparently we are being put up in an old bunkhouse. so i'm not sure what the amenities are, if any.
i use the disposables at night b'cuz she soaks right through the cloth even just after an hour during the day. and to be honest i'm starting to wonder if i should just give up on the whole thing cuz she just keeps soaking through everything and i'm having to change her entire outfit at almost every diaper change.
(finding it overwhelming)
thank you both for all your tips!

What diapers are you using?? Nothing should result in a 3 month old being able to pee through! Is she soaking through and then leaking? Or is it a bad fit and the diaper isn't soaked but pee gets out?

i am so so sorry for the incredibly long delay. i haven't been on LM's pretty much since that post until tonight. busy, busy month.
anyway, i kinda gave up on cloth diapering but i am wanting to try again.
all my diapers are 2nd hand and were given to me by a girlfriend who used to have her own business called baybee.ca. most of them are made by her or are ones she already had like mother-ease. i also bought some 2nd hand kushies from kid cents in lambeth (but i haven't tried those ones yet)
i want to cloth diaper so bad but i don't know why i found it so overwhelming. i don't use them when we go out, when she's at my mom's for the day or overnight.
i have enough diapers that should last me until she potty trains and it's something i also assumed i'd do but i don't know what the mental block is with me.
i'm sure this sounds crazy but i have found most things with motherhood quite overwhelming and so many of my dreams didn't happen as planned.
anyway, again i'm sorry for the delay.
thanx for 'listening'.

It can be really frustrating when CDing doesn't work out as you'd hoped, I know from experience! Totally understand and it doesn't hurt to take a break and try again if you're feeling up for it.
I wonder if they might have buildup and need to be stripped? That would cause leaks. And what covers are you using? I tried Kushies and found them completely useless.

i haven't been using covers. i've been using AIOs. i do have tons with covers though but for some reason they seemed like more work and harder to fit under DD's clothes.

This. Well maybe not completely but they needed major tweaking just to work. I had to put a trifolded hemp soaker in them to keep DS from leaking out the top. It's not a great design and the fabric is a bit scratchy. Mind you, back then they were MUCH cheaper than their better made counterparts. Now that they've significantly increased their prices and other pockets have come down in price, I wouldn't buy them again.

I've heard Motherease AIOs don't always survive through many children, so maybe they're just done?
Could be a buildup thing for sure. Have you tried pouring a bit of water on them and seeing how long it takes to absorb? Did you ever have any rashes or find the diapers got stinky easily?

I've never tried the AIOs, but found the covers literally useless, like it was the exact same as putting her in a fitted/prefold with no cover at all. So in my attempt at cheaping out I just ended up wasting money because then I had to go out and buy decent ones.

Ooh, you're lucky! I LOVE AMy's diapers, sooo sad when she sold Baybee They are seriously the best diapers around, no one else makes AIOs like that! If her AIOs were leaking, my best guess would be that the fit/size wasn't great for your little one. Any chance of that? The quick-dry AIOs you can also add a doubler between the main part and the snap-in to get absorbency which might be the way to go if she is saturating those.
Which mother-ease diapers? The one-size aren't super absorbent at all, you probably need a doubler inside. Or are those also AIOs?
Kushies, if your motherease and Baybees are in good shape and you're liking them... you're not likely to like anything by Kushies Again, are they AIOs or the fitteds? The fitteds are not very absorbent at all, the AIOs I had problems with leaks around the legs as did anyone else I knew with girls... the one family I knew who liked them had boys, no idea if that is related
Motherhood can be very overwhelming! I think part of what helps is to accept that it is okay that it is overwhelming
You clearly have an interest in cloth diapering. I bet we can help you come up with something! Are all of them leaking, or specific types? How big is she? Some definitely fit better once there are some chunkier thighs.

didn't have any problems with rashes and didn't notice the stinky thing.
i was starting to wonder if maybe they've all just been way over used. they were used by my friend's 3 children and her sister's 2.

When you wash, do you have lots of suds? Or next time, throw everything in without the detergent and let it agitate and see if you're getting lots of suds, might give an idea if you have lots of residual detergent build-up which effects the ability to absorb.
Hmm, too bad I'm not closer, it would probably be easy for someone else to quickly tell you if the diapers look like they're really worn down/less material to absorb than expected. At least that would let you know the source of the issue. Do you have much int he way of doublers?

you know amy?? she is my daughter's goddess mother (one of 3) and my husband is her middle daughter's goddess father and i'm her son's goddess mother.
i'll have to pass your compliments along to her.
ya know, CD confuses me so much that i'm not sure what the difference is between AIOs and fitteds? maybe i've got them mixed up?
