I use the sanitize setting on mine (it's one of the reasons I chose that washer actually), along with a prewash, extra rise and spin, extra water and I put the soil level on heavy. It takes about 2 1/2 hours, but hey.

That's impressive! I do a prewash then go and put it on a heavy duty cycle with extra rinse. I hate that anything you want to do you have to remember to go and do it yourself. No hot-hot cycles on ours or anything. It takes a lot longer than 2 1/2 hours if you forget to go and restart it, hehe!

I'd love a washer with the sanitize setting

It's an LG, I really like it. It also has the steam option, but I've never used it on the diapers. I'm not a dunker or a swisher, so I was really worried the front loader wouldn't work with the diaper laundry. About 1/3 of my laundry is diapers, so that's sort of important.

Default Felting

I know that many of you have made wool covers and done felting. I don't knit but I do crochet so I have made a crochet wool cover. My question is can I felt this and how do I go about doing that??

Crocheting will work the same as knitting, I'm trying to remember the rule on which way it stretches - the crochet only stretches width wise but knitting stretches both? Something like that, I know someone commented on it when I bought something crocheted so that I was aware.

You can felt by washing on hot and drying on hot as well, though the hotter it is and the more things you do (wash and dry instead of just wash) the more it will felt and the smaller it will get. If you have made something and have an intended size, you might want to be a bit conservative to be safe. You can always wash on hot again or for longer later if it still isn't small enough

Some of my diapers are leaking! Straight out the side, the diaper itself wasn't that wet but his legs and pants were soaked. Why could this be?? They are the monkey doodlez diapers.

These are new, right? So it isn't likely build up. How many times have they been washed? If they h aven't been washed much, they might not be absorbent enough yet. I"m not sure the middle layer of the Monkey Doodlez - are they hemp?

No, they are for my 35lb toddler so they are pretty much the perfect size. I've washed them quite a bit. I don't use much soap either.
I'm not sure what the middle layer is either... is hemp better or not?

Could just be the diaper unfortunately. I have some that leak (Baby Kanga's).

Is this a pocket or an AIO? I prefer hemp to micro terry for absorbancy but hemp does tend to get stink issues after a while. Both my kids are pretty heavy wetters and will soak a micro terry insert really quickly.

Yep its the diapers I think too... I had the same problem with monkey doodlez. I called the owner and she recommended that I put them in the dryer on hot to seal the stitch holes. This didn't help, I resorted to try and sell them as I figured they didn't work for us. No luck on selling so far. I found the problem the worse when he was sitting in a car seat. Great surprise, you'd get him out and he'd be soaked all up the front. The soakers are cotton, they take FOREVER to dry, which was our other problem.

Hemp isn't necessarily better or worse, but regular hemp will take more time to prep than microfiber, as an example. Hemp take take a lot of washes to reach full absorbency.

How long is he in them before they start to leak? Is it possible that the stay-dry fabric is feeling fairly dry but the diaper is saturated? Is it heavy? I know it sounds odd, but my mum has taken off pocket diapers and told me they were dry, and the daycare sometimes doesn't change her the first time they check because they say she was dry when there was no-way she was, because the fleece layer feels dry.

Hmm - how long have you had them?

Sometimes, especially as children get older, they save up their pee and let out a bunch all at once and the diaper just can't absorb it that fast.

Zabsmom, the carseat problem is more likely compression wicking. That happens more often with fleece or wool. It's the reason I don't use onsies anymore, I do find my MPBs are bad for it when squished by a onsie.

Katie managed to pee all down her leg the other day, but I think it was the (lack of) elastic. I was using a really old diaper without much left.

I bought these at the mom to mom sale as never been used. They weren't very much so if they don't work, so be it.
It was completely dry, totally light still. This seems to happen when he is sitting. i do dry on hot too.
I sometimes have a bit of trouble with my other diapers (bum genius and happy heinys) leaking up the front, especially with my tummy sleeper. Is there any way I can fix that?
I'm not sure I like pockets that much because I feel like I'm not stuffing them right. Seems like once I pull the diaper on there is a gap at the top with no stuffin. How many layers is normal to put in for just a regular few hour time period?
I love the AIO Bum Genius but the large just fits Austin.
