    Default Jury Duty

Has anyone been selected for jury duty? A friend of mine received a letter to potentially be on the jury for the biker gang murders that happened in Shedden back in 2006. It could be a lengthy murder trial (6 months or longer). He is scared about being "picked" next week. Any experiences to share?

I know someone as well. She's hoping to get out of it since she is a single mom who works from home.

I was called for jury duty once. It was for some murder trial this was yrs ago. There was a lot of people there and they called my # and I went up there and they said what my occupation was and they didnt like it I guess and turned me down...thank goodness I was lucky to where I worked at the time paid me my regular wages, so if I had been picked I would have been paid for as long as I was there.

I heard from someone at the courthouse that the jury pool is HUGE, we're talking over 1000. The chance your friend will be selected is very low. They have such a large pool though because many will be trying to get excused from this trial.

Not to sound stupid, how do they know what the trial is for? DH was called up once and we did not know what it was for untill he got there.

I've never been called, but with my line of work it's pretty much a given the defense would not want me. Just tell your friend to shout out "they're all guilty" and i bet he'll be excused...and then on the rest of the gang's hitlist!

Seriously, if it seems that he can't be an impartial juror, someone will rule him out!

Not stupid at all! Normally, you don't know what it is for. In this case though because of the size of the jury pool I think the selection is being held at the convention centre.

I did jury duty once... At first I was just kinda annoyed at having to be there, then I was actually selected, and I was like oh shit, what did I just get myself into... And I LOVED it... It was so interesting to see how it all goes down and such.
My trial was a criminal trial in Detroit... A then 18 year old raped his then 12 year old cousin. She came forward like 10 years later. We were in deliberations for 4 days, and he was found guilty.

BTW, My DH worked with one of the guys that was killed. He said he was always such a nice guy. One day he just didn't go to work, and no one knew where he was...til they found the van.

I haven't been selected, but I did get a form last fall to fill out and send back- I think it was to become part of a 'potential' pool of jurors for 2009.

    Would? or Would not?

I don't ever want to be picked for any jury duty. Just not what I want to do.

My husband was able to get out of it because he was our sole breadwinner and it would have been a financial hardship for him to take the time off work. I have also heard of people gtting out of it because they are going to school and stay at home and nursing mothers as well. Good luck!
