I think that would be for the whole summer, so for 4 months. I'm actually thinking it's not that much money at all compared to what we normally get, but I haven't pulled out my calculator yet so I don't know for sure. LOL!

I wish they would just have normal semesters in the summer we could get full funding for. It would make sense, considering that there are 4 months per semester and 4 months in the summer... Weird that they don't.

Princess, in your experience, do you find that because the summer sessions are so much shorter the profs are less likely to grade by assignments and more likely to grade by testing? I've only had 1 half-course so far but it only had 3 exams, no assignments, which was really nice. LOL

My writing class was assignments..... which can be assumed I think. Nutrition was about half and half, English was an essay and a test, psych was 2 tests. I definately think that the "things marked" is cut down, but it depends on the nature of the course what it is. If you are taking an essay course (the ones with the E, f, or g behind the number) then you will still get assignments. The no letter or a/b ones you can probably count on tests.

You only get OSAP funding for when you are in school. If you notice my amounts, the first year I got about half of my sept-april total for may-aug (1 credit each summer session). The time I got $6500 I was only in school for 2 months of the summer and got about a third of the amount. OSAP expected that I was working for the other two I guess?

Here's my numbers a little more simply put:

Year 1 - Married, no children:

-I got $10,000 for Sept-April (8months). $5000 goes to tuition $5000 for books and living expenses.
    - $4400 for May-Aug (4 months). $2000 to tuition, $2400 for books and living expenses
    - So after tuition is taken out of both OSAP amounts my living expense amount for May-Aug was about half of my living expense amount for Sept-April

Year 3 - Married, one child:

    - I got $18000 for Sept-April (8months). $5000 for tuition, $13000 for books and living expenses
    - $6500 for May-June (2 months). $1000 for tuition, $5500 for living expenses and books.
    - So after tuition is taken out the living expenses amount for may/june (2 months) was about 40% of the sept-april.

Basically, the more tuition you have, the more they will give you for tuition. The more you are in classes the more they give you for living expenses (because it is less time available for you to work). So if you want to get the most OSAP possible, take the most classes possible. 3 credits in the summer really is a lot. I would recommend 2.0 credits.

Ohh, so I wonder if I took a 1.0 course over the course of the full summer it might be different... Would that still be FT?

ETA: yeah, I'm only doing 3.5 courses during the regular year so I don't want to go crazy in the summer! LOL!

I think the course load they count it as varies with which session you take it in (intersession, summer day, distance, summer evening). On the page for getting the OSAP it tells you what they will count it as. I ***think*** a full credit by summer distance only counts as 60% so part time. There is a chart somewhere and I am pretty sure it is on the OSAP form.

Here is the one from LAST YEAR. It doesn't look like the form for this year is released yet. You will have to ask financial aid when it comes out.

    http://www3.registrar.uwo.ca/Financi...OSAP%20App.pdf

Look at the second page for if the course counts for OSAP

I took a distance course over last summer and it didn't count for OSAP. you need to be on campus I believe. Other than that I don't have anything to add. LOL The couse was really intense however with a huge workload. I did I think 4 essays, midterm before the final and there was a novel every week I believe. Really fast but you get a credit in 12 weeks! Totally worth it.

Princess: your numbers boggle me I only got a little over 1800 with 2 kids. We could have used it too. Has anyone heard something about the rules changing about how they factor in spousal income. I thought I did but it was in passing. I hope so.
